Nest cams are great but I don't like the idea that I have to pay subscription. I end up sold all my nest cams

Regular nest outdoor cams are fine. IQ is not needed.
The biggest problem is the ugly wire on those. That's why IQ is the way to go

They are coming out with a new subscription in early 2020 that is only $6 for all the cameras. If you had an NVR always recording, that electricity use would be more than $6 a month.

The $6 is only event based recording, to be fair

I used to have the Ring but then upgraded to Nest and couldn't be happier with it. Video quality and play back is so much better. I love the facial recognition and once it's linked with a google device it announces who's at the door. Then with the last Nest update they added package recognition and it gives me an alert when a package is delivered and gives me a zoomed in snap shot of it to your phone. Downside is the price but you're paying for the features.

I had been looking at getting some Nest Outdoor Cams. I had originally decided on the regular Nest Outdoor Cams after seeing how much these cost but then I saw the installation process of each, looks like these Nest IQ cams are a bit more secure on the wall (requires a small tool vs. just pulling off magnetic base). I wish the regular Nest Outdoor Cams can be secured to the wall a little more than a strong magnet to the base, although from what I can see the wire is still attached to the camera so you can't easily take the camera unless you cut or yank the cable real hard to rip it off.

I just can't get over how expensive these are though (even after taking into account reselling the other 2 items since I don't need them). I'm also not too fond of the light up ring around the front of the camera that supposedly can't be turned off, I've read you can lower it to a very dim light output but I'd rather not have it light up at all to attract attention to the camera.

I thought I read somewhere on here that Google disabled the IQ's ring light due to privacy concerns.

Was really hoping they'd release a complete 4k version of this camera this year considering the Nest Cams direct power anyway.

Do we know why outdoor IQ cams are still so elusive? They're not on amazon and all retailers which have nest otherwise don't have them still.

The opposite. They disabled the ability to dim the light and turn it off. It stays on always.

Man the whole point of doing Dyi home security is to save money and may be it is something u want to do. 3 camera and a damn google hub for 700 bucks is a deal? Just go get your locks security company and install the whole damn package for 45 bucks a month.

Not to mention nest camera got the lags everybody keep talking about. Yeah go get some damn wyze
I've been really looking into wyze and there is a ton of good reviews. What worries me is though I've seen increasing amounts of network logs showing random chinese ips getting sent data from the cameras. Not sure if malicious or sending to Chinese cloud servers. Just wanted to give my 2 cents
