I got this refurbished for $300 6 years back, without a doubt that was the best $300 I have ever spent, and I defiantly saved thousand of dollars using that machine.

I had no issues at all with it, it just got a little louder after 2 years.

just make sure to follow the cleaning schedule, and avoid buying oily beans

What price was it at last black friday?
It's been as low as $38X .. and in the past people have scored with those quarterly eBay coupons which now seem all but gone now .. probably no tax for most back in those days. Seems like refurbished ones have been even lower and have been working well so that's another one to look out for Smilie Breville has been really awesome with their warranty support so this Is definitely on my radar! I've never seen a company try and help you out past the 1 year mark like Breville!

have this for 5 years and we make latte. The only thing you need to know is that the milk frother is weak and dilutes the milk with water. I bought the gravelly milk frother and my latte tastes much better.
Ugh, I was ready to pull the trigger until you mentioned this. Quality feedback because that's the exact problem I have with Starbucks lattes; the Mastrena is meant for speed, not quality and I've worked with the machines (not as a barista) before so I can confirm the water dilution sucks. Impossible to get creamy consistency for art (and taste) when the steam could give you first degree burns.

I may just break down one day and buy a Rocket; expensive but would easily pay for itself within a year.

As much as I dont want to spend $1700 on an espresso machine. I do agree that paying extra to get a quality machine will eventually pay for itself. I would thinking getting the double boiler Breville Oracle or the Rocket. If you end up getting it let me know what you think.

I'm pretty sure I started this thread/deal. I'm not sure why @iconian took the credit?

This is not entirely true, yes it is weak, which actually gives you more margin for error compared to other steamers.
I am not a barista and only make a cup or two of latte, and I can do decent latte art with that machine.

Create an alert for Breville, you'll get an email when a deal for it pops up. That's how I was able to get notified and scored one when the deal was alive for only less than 20 min.
