Compare the deals with the deals from the old 2018 thread:
https://slickdeals.net/e/12295456-list-of-lorex-website-s-black-friday-cyber-monday-2018-security-camera-deals

You can also compare the deals to other deals, see The old 2018 main Master list:

ipcamtalk cliff notes and VPN notes are useful:

mat2000 notes ( which helped me learn this topic ) - dome related topics in #85, 89, and 90
( note - Lorex calls their turrets "domes" - they really are not domes. )

btw - side note, for those looking to be entertained on a security camera topic regarding expectations of what a security camera and do:

Yeah, I was looking through the packages for the 4K POEs too and was noticing the same thing.

Wasn't sure if maybe there were some good deals on other types of cameras I'm not interested in.

I think last year the BF code carried into some better seasonal deals that Mat was able to find.

Hi Nyyankees and Angel Eater -

Keep an eye out from the deals from Lorex ( also watch imho Montavue - perhaps Security King, both carry Dahua OEM products... if anyone knows of other vendors which have nicer Dahua OEM cameras and will have deals - please do share it here on SDs ).

Lorex deals vary quite a bit when I was checking last year - prices would go up and down significantly at times between week to week. Keep an eye out on them - they'll probably do similar deals as last year, where iirc the best deals were around BF to cyberweek.
( 25% off and free shipping is what I used to get a few junction boxes from them last year.. )

I would look for the newer model cameras that have the larger sensors ( example 1/1.8" ).

varifocal 4x optical zoom cams @15fps (LNB8963) or fixed focus cams @30fps (LNB9232)?

Hello mat2000 and other IP cams experts!

I am interested in buying a Lorex system, but can't decide between the following two systems:

16-Channel 4K Ultra HD IP NVR System with Four Outdoor 4K (8MP) IP Fixed 30FPS Real-Time Format Nocturnal Cameras with Color Night Vision and Audio Recording:
https://www.lorextechnology.com/4...-p#camera1

4K Ultra HD IP NVR System with 6 Outdoor 4K (8MP) IP Motorized Varifocal White Metal Cameras, 4x Optical Zoom Cameras, 250FT Night Vision
https://www.lorextechnology.com/4...te#camera1

8 channel is sufficient for my purpose, but I don't mind getting a 16 channel just in case. I jus want to get a system with better cameras. Which is better?

Thank you very much in advance!

Hi Sytian

You want to check the specs of the 8 port NVR vs the 16 port NVR.

In general the 16 port NVR should be more powerful ( more memory, maybe processing power ) and thus even if you only want 8 cameras I typically prefer to go one step better ( also you often want to add just one more camera )

In terms of cameras - check for models which have the 1/1.8" sensor vs the 1/2.5" sensor. The cameras with the larger sensors should perform better in low light conditions. ( iirc that varifocal model has a 1/2.5" sensor.. look for a varifocal kit that has the 1/1.8" sensor - or a kit with a mix of varifocal and fixed lens cameras )

Remember, the Lorex prices will vary a bit - and look for deals around BF-cyberweek.
( use the past deals as a guide )

Looking for 1/1.8" sensors in lorex IP cameras I was able to find:

4K ULTRA HD SMART IP SECURITY CAMERA ( E861AB )
Image Sensor 4K (8MP) 1/1.8" CMOS
https://www.lorextechnology.com/d...eet_R1.pdf

and
4K ULTRA HD SMART DETERRENCE IP CAMERA ( )
Image Sensor 8MP/4K 1/1.8" CMOS
https://www.lorextechnology.com/d...eet_R1.pdf

While I did not find the spec sheets for the following models, iirc they also have 1/1.8" sensors
4K Ultra HD Resolution 8MP Outdoor IP Camera with Real-Time 30FPS Recording Rate, Color Night Vision and Listen-In Audio
LNB9232S
https://www.lorextechnology.com/4...B9232S-1-p

and
4K Ultra HD Resolution 8MP Motorized Varifocal Outdoor 4x Optical Zoom IP Camera with Real-Time 30FPS Recording and Listen-In Audio
LNB9272
https://www.lorextechnology.com/4...NB9272-1-p

some of their other 8MP models have a smaller sensor ( 1/2.5" which will do well enough with good light, however not as well as the ones with the 1/1.8" sensor in low light conditions )
example:
LNB8963B
Imaging Device 4K, 1/2.5 Inch
https://www.lorextechnology.com/4...B8963B-1-p

A quick look at some of their WiFi models show they have a good 1/2.8" sensor for 2MP resolution. This is the same size as the popular Dahua OEM 2MP starlights. However, the specs do not indicate if it is a starvis sensor. If they are then they should perform well in low light conditions.

Thank you very much, mat2000! That's really very useful info.

Based on your input, it looks like the following kit is better choice for me:
16-Channel 4K Ultra HD IP NVR System with Four Outdoor 4K (8MP) IP Fixed 30FPS Real-Time Format Nocturnal Cameras with Color Night Vision and Audio Recording:
https://www.lorextechnology.com/4...te#camera1

Inside the link, Lorex mentions both LNB9232S and LNB9232 (which seems to be inferior to LNB9232S). So it is confusing which cameras this kit (4KHDIP164i) includes.

By the way, currently there is 25% off site-wide, which is supposed to be Black Friday (BLACK25) discount. Does Lorex usually give out a new promotion code during Black Friday to Cyber Monday?

Again, thank you very much!

Last year mat found several packages and deals that Lorex updated the week of Black Friday.

One thing to keep in mind, when you buy the kits, you usually get the cameras heavily discounted. So if you by a kit for more channels on the NVR, you usually get less cams. Then if you buy the cams separate, they cost upwards of $200 EACH.

Also, check out the Montavue website. They have some nice cameras and NVRs too that support larger hard drives than the current Lorex NVRs. They currently have a 25% off Black Friday code too, and have more of the 1/1.8 sensor cams and also support HLC and BLC.

I was also told by a Montavue rep that they will be having an additional site-wide discount on Black Friday.

That post is here.

Hi Sytian

Do check out what happened last year, check out the main BF-cyberweek master list I put out.
https://slickdeals.net/f/12200566-security-camera-security-camera-system-black-friday-cyber-week-2018-master-list

You can follow the thread on changes and deals that should give you a good idea of timing and what Lorex may repeat / do again this year ( 2019 ).

Also look at the Lorex BF deal thread from last year ( 2018 ):
https://slickdeals.net/e/12295456-list-of-lorex-website-s-black-friday-cyber-monday-2018-security-camera-deals

In 2018 in addition to the BLACK25 code they had free shipping for all orders for awhile. This was really nice when ordering just a junction box or 2. Once cyberweek kicked in they changed the code to CYBER25. Suspect they may do something similar. The prices also varied on kits in a somewhat random fashion... maybe they changed it week to week??

Lorex mentions both LNB9232S and LNB9232:

I've seen this, seems that sometimes a slightly newer version of a camera comes out and the first part of the model number is the same, with a slight difference at the end. ( "S" in this case.. ) Normally you're getting the newer versions of the model in the kits unless it is a refurb / open box or the like. I'd often say call them.. however often it's rather random if you hit a customer service rep who really knows what is going on from what I have read from SD'ers.
