FYI, these are 2" (Olympic) vs the ones that are listed by OP which are 1".

I've actually had better luck with the spring clips - mine that are like this are already slipping even though I've only had them for a couple of years.

I don't agree with this. You just said plastic and rubber last longer than steel. Nope.

I have these, I used them regularly with 120lbs - 180lbs, few times with 205. I've used them about 100+ times and they do not slip, in fact they are slightly difficult to remove with a bit of snag. At this price you can buy several if you believe they'll wear loose over time. However, most people do use Olympic 2" bars and most people recommend quick access collars.

Agree on the rubber/plastic ones. They're pretty low profile, but I've tipped a bar 20 degrees to the side and they slipped right off. Metal spring clips are a little bulky and low tech, but work.

For barbells. When you're bench pressing and if you don't have a spotter.

Are you trying to kill the guy?? *Shame*

But they are good for making sure the weight doesn't slide off the bar on a Smith Machine.

I agree on the collars. When I used to go to a commercial gym, most of them mostly had the spring clips. And eventually a lot of them would loosen and you would have to search for the good ones. Don't know if the brand matters where some brands might be better than others.

Some people just brought in their own collars with the same type of style that other posters suggested.

But I ended up buying these clamps locally:
https://www.amazon.com/Clout-Fitn...B01MU7U8Y1

And they have suited my purposes well. These are 2"

It looks like there are 1" clamps on Amazon as well, like this pair:
https://www.amazon.com/Greententl...B01I1H76LO

Not sure if these are good. But so far I prefer the collars over the spring clamps as well for now.
