As a HVAC contractor of 13 year I agree that these filters are a waste of money. You're trying to protect your equipment and keep your evaporator coil clean. The cheapest filter you can buy changed more often is the best choice. It will allow more air to flow through the system allowing it to breathe better which means more airflow coming out of your registers. Also means lower utility bills and less stress on the blower. Pleated filter are no good unless you start getting into 2 inch thick and thus have more surface area on the pleats. A restrictive filter is the same as a dirty filter. The filter will not clean your home. Like I said it's there to protect the equipment and the cheap non pleated fiber filters protect plenty good enough. I'd love to sell overpriced filters to undereducated homeowners if I was a filter company but honestly it's just doing you no good. Just my 2 cents. It's your equipment and when it burns up that blower or your coil ices up (since 90% of people have standard blowers and not ECM's) I'll be the guy to get the call. Job security for me. Also in almost all homes I go into, return air ducts and return air grills that hold your filter are undersized. And please people stop shoving the filter all the way into the return air grill until it's against the bottom of the return air can. That rim they put under the grill is meant to have the filter sit on it. That way you get all of the surface area of the filter, not just the surface area of the size of the duct coming out. And stop closing registers in rooms you don't want cool. That system was meant to handle that many square feet and your just restricting it more. It will cool faster and more efficiently if you keep them open. Maybe just shut them half way and close the doors to those rooms. Keep doors open to rooms you want the most air and the return will help pull more air into those rooms.

Yep, rebate is per pack so you would need to buy 2, 3 or 4 packs for the rebate. Single pack will get you no discount.

The higher the MPR, the more you damage your furnace overtime. Just keep that in mind.
Do you have links to expert advice on that or it's just your 'feeling'?

So you say ALL furnaces will be damaged by higher MPR or no?

Higher mpr creates more restrictive airflow which causes the blower to work harder. Which could lead to quicker wear and tear.
