You will need a tripod to make using this a lot easier. The device will have to be more or less level with the line you're trying to create. You can't tilt the head up or down too much when trying to get level or it will error out.

I looked at this today but 3/16 accuracy seems kind of crappy. I guess it depends on your needs

I have owned one for years. It's painful to use, because you really need a tall tripod or a pole as its companion.

Didn't know this before I picked it up and tested it. Are there any that allow tilting up or down and still have the line?

Do you guys have a recommendation for a different laser leveler if this one isn't that great? Saw some on amazon but not sure which one is good. Thanks!

This one is great. The only complaint others have is that you need to mount it on something if you want it higher....just like all the others.

If you don't want to use a tripod, it'll clamp to a chair, ladder, table, book shelf, labrador retriever, etc...

could you clamp it to the side of a ladder?
