Costco has had madras lentils, chick peas and vegetable tikka masala at 8$ a box with bigger packs than these for months now...

Basmati Rice - You can try using this type (available in Walmart, Costco, Wegmans) for Pilafs and aromatic flavor.
Sona Masoori - Easily digestible, goes well with all dishes.
Brown Rice - Healthy option.
You can also try Millet's, Quinoa or Wild Rice with Madras Lentils.

Royal brand is good. If you live close to any Indian stores I would recommend Khazana, India Gate or Kitchen King.

These are some of my favorite of this brand. Not too salty and pretty good flavor. Beats eating out when you don't have time to prepare a proper dinner

If you want small size rice for casual eating, try royal organic sona masoori. It is available in Costco. If you want long grain fancy eating, kohinoor extra flavor basmati rice is great (violet bag)

so 21% of my sodium for the day per serving, 2 servings per bag... seems very high. if this gets put on rice is it legitimately 2 servings per bag, or will this feed a family of 3 or 4 for dinner?

want to get it, but i try to watch my salt consumption.
