Is this like them selling printers practically for free in order to milk you from the toner sales?

Based on the paper towel usage in my house, I was intrigued. Turns out that you are correct Smilie Looks like there would be savings if the machine took the more "universal" commercial rolls (1.75" .. same diameter ~8") But those have a more traditional "core". The hard gray core ones are like more than double the price making it cheaper to buy the Costco or Sams Club select a size paper towels. The retail ones are probably softer / better too depending on your application.

Now I'll be on the hunt for some cheap "non-gray-core" ones Smilie

Edit: Actually I found some other non-Amazon / non-Costco type of sites that look like they cater to Commercial groups that might offer cheaper prices that actually make it cost efficient. Even on Amazon if you go with the Scott Pro (25703) @ 1150' ... it's $101.31 but its a case of 6. At $16.89 a roll it is actually cheaper than Costco's 12 pack online for $19.99 @ 1,120 ft. Granted, with Costco you get 7" cuts whereas with this you either get a 10" cut or almost a 12" cut. Not bad, but I can't speak to the quality compared to Retail.

This is a grey core dispenser. Do you have to use a grey core or will any hard roll paper towel fit?

I have an electronic/battery operated one in my garage and it is one of the best things I every installed for my garage. Hands dirty, no problem as there is no touch. Bought my refill rolls at Sam's and have not gone through the box I bought in over two years, so a box of them go a loooong way. Batteries (d cell) lasted over two years. Don't hesitate, it is a good thing!!! For garage, laundry room, etc.

Thanks for the information. Want one for my kitchen and workshop. Did you purchase the machine at Sam's as well?

I see quill has the paper rolls for about 80 for a pack of 6 case. If you can combine that with a 30 off 75 coupon I've seen floating around then you would have something

I picked up one of the Sam's club dispensers years ago for my boat dock bathroom. It was cool because when you have fish hands or gasoline hands, you can wipe up before washing...

I got another for my garage, but haven't installed a sink there yet (though it's plumbed in case I want one). These are pretty nice in those situations...but yes, the industrial rolls are cheaper.

We use the sams club hands free electronic dispenser it works pretty good and durable. our first is going about on 6+ years. about $30-35. uses all rolls. Don't get the sams club mechanical hands free. Needs too much force to pull. Rips too easy when using cheap towels. I hate the dispenser that use proprietary rolls. rolls to pricy. We had a tork intuition and made an adapter for it to take all rolls, but the dispenser themselves died sensors stops working. replaced them with sams club dispenser.
