FYI These do NOT work with smart switches/plugs. I had return it for the newer model (touch sensor is on the top) to have it work with my smart plug.

Tax brings total to $20.18 for me (on eBay), still ever so slightly cheaper on Google.

It can.
I have this lamp and never use it. It's 100% touch controls, and mine only responds to touch 50% of the time. The controls themselves feel unintuitive. I could never remember if I was supposed to press and hold or tap it twice. Either way, it rarely recognized when I tapped it.
I think I paid $12 for it, and it wasn't worth it.

Can anyone confirm what the top (white translucent) and bottom (silver) portion of the lamp are made of? I've read everything on the Google listing and the eBay listing and I don't see any mention of the materials. Also, does it take replaceable bulbs (which type?) or it is it just considered more of a cheap novelty vs. a real lamp, to be tossed eventually?

I was planning to buy a similar (glass and metal) touch lamp at Lowe's for $30, but I'll grab this one instead if it can function as a bedside lamp and looks at least decent.

Yes -- you have to touch/hold the base until the light changes color. in my experience though, all that seems to do is change the lamp to a mode where it cycles through different colors but doesn't really keep it at the color you want it to. The documentation included was lacking info on how to use it.

You tap again once it is at the color you want to hold, tap once more and it will continue to cycle colors.

Must have been a dud. Mine always responds. First tap to choose light ambience of low, medium, bright. Then tap and hold to begin color changing, tap on the color you like or tap once more to continue cycling colors again.
