Montavue BF code for 25% off is still active.

I previously made a post that this was active but it appears at some point it glitched out and the thread went to expired.

The code in fact still does work.

This code won't apply to things already listed as "on sale".

Looks like they have some BF kits up now. The kit I've been watching is about $50 off from it's previous sale price but still hasn't hit my "pull the trigger" price. The Black Friday code will not apply towards these discounts since they are "sale" prices.

Also looks like no tax and free shipping for me. Not sure if that is part of the active deal or just something normal.

my comment from the original thread ( moving it here so you don't need to follow the above link )

Montavue carries Dahua OEM cameras and NVRs. You can typically map the Montavue models back to a similar Dahua Internation model.

Remember to also consider if you would like to get junction boxes ( optional ). You can also DIY mod an electrical junction box from the hardware store. Personally I like them as they give me a nice place to put the connectors in.

https://montavue.com/shop/montavu...t-cameras/

note - the BF25 may not work for junction boxes from Montavue.

You typically can ID the Montavue model number of junction box back to the Dahua OEM model. For example MAM121 = Dahua PFA121
https://montavue.com/shop/montavu...t-cameras/

Lorex and Amcrest also carry Dahua OEM cameras and you can find they also carry junction boxes - and may have a discounted deal during BF-cyberweek.

Montavue cameras:
4MP- in general the 4MP / 2K cameras seem to have a rather small sensor:
1/3" 4MP Progressive Scan CMOS
Thus I would opt to skip those unless you find one of the newer starlight+ models in their selection of 4MP cameras
https://montavue.com/product/ip-c...esolution/

8MP / "4K" UHD - a quick look and I was able to find models with the larger sensor
Image Sensor 1/1.8" 8 MP Progressive Scan CMOS ( looks like this sensor is not yet available in a turret form factor - so I'd go for the bullet form instead unless you need one for indoors where I would look at the dome version )
Thus, good news - these should perform fairly well in low light conditions ( the Dahua OEM 2MP starlight and 4MP starlight+ models should still out perform these in low light conditions based on reviews published by ipcamtalk members - thankfully you can augment a Montavue kit with a Dahua OEM starlight / starlight+ model for the most critical positions )

If you're curious about the "AI" versions of the cameras, Montavue has a blog post covering that:
( note - seems like the models marked as "AI" 8MP are able to do 15 fps at 8MP vs the non-AI version which can do 30 fps. My guess is that the processing needs for the AI calculations results in less fps being able to be processed at this price point. )
https://montavue.com/2019/11/06/m...i-cameras/

( note: I disagree with some of the points they have in their other blog posts.. especially when discussing FOV and 30 fps as there is more to these issues than they cover.. )

A quick check and I did not see any Montavue cameras which had both the 1/1.8" sensor and a microphone

Montavue "Audio enabled" security cameras:
( that is they have microphones so you can record audio in the video - remember to check your local laws on this issue. )

Yeah, I'd love to get some of their turret cams, but it does not look like they have optical zoom. I would probably want that as an option and narrow down the FOV in some places. I know Lorex has some with the 4X optical. I'm personally not too concerned with audio. Would be a nice option, but probably one of the first things I'd be willing to give up.

-EDIT-
Also one of the Montavue reps told me they will be having a site wide sale on Black Friday.
The other bad thing about the Lorex turrets, in exchange for the optical zoom you get a smaller sensor, and only 15 FPS @ 4K/8MP.

Thanks again for the info mat!

I do see that now on some of the packages I wasn't looking at. They seem to have the smaller sensor or the dome around it, which my understanding is that they typically will oxidize over time.

Thanks for catching my oversight.

Is AI a feature they "invented" and not in the equivalent Dahua cameras?

HI megazone..

Typically the vendors which rebrand Dahua or HIkvision OEM ( or other OEMs ) do not have enough developers and scientists to "invent" - so I think it is really the "equivalent" from the OEM.

I am debating between these two: Price-wise Lorex is cheaper, but people don't seem to like their NVR.

Hi Jag,

I have not kept up with the reviews at ipcamtalk on the AI camera models, so you may want to go there and see what they're sharing on this model / type of camera.

As these are basically Dahua OEM international models with IVS functionality, they should be one of the better 8MP cameras we'll see available this season. ( thus why I posted the above 2 kits, if I was looking for a new kit - those would be on my list to compare other options with .. )

I'd also look at the deals Andy from ipcamtalk ( EmpireTecAndy ) has in his Amazon store, as well as see what sort of deals Security King will have ( I've posted a thread at ipcamtalk in the "chat" section re cameras at Security King.. )

Those are the 3 vendors I believe will have the equivalent of the Dahua OEM international models which perform better. ( LaView has a limited selection with their Saturn line.. and they've sort of pissed many of us off by not fessing to the malware on their website which jacked our CC info.. )
