These are one of the best pairs of hiking boots I've ever owned.

Not sure if you've ever owned a set of Keen hikers. But I disagree strongly that these aren't worth $90.

Same price at Cabelas in case someone has a local store near them.

i have, and i also do not think they are worth this price.. comfort aside they are not nearly as durable as my salomons, merrells, etc. around as durable as my columbia boots, which i also wouldnt by for this price.

everyone has their favorites, and some people may love these, but i dont think this is a deal... case in point... if an item can be found on sale at cabelas for a same price, it means it isnt a deal. cabelas is RARELY a good price, unless you get really lucky and combine the deal with 20% off gift cards.

that's a great price for KEEN shoes, let alone boots. Unfortunately, not available in brown so I will pass.

I have only had a pair steel toe Keen work boots. Very comfortable, and I would say fairly durable. Had a lace break and some of the tread is starting to wear. The waterproofing has been entirely reliable. I've used them every working day since April and put on average about 10 miles a day.
I haven't put it to the test yet but supposedly they are very good about their products under warranty.

It actually is. They expected more "features" and durability for a $90 boot. I disagree. Vibram sole boots are a great feature. Keen soles are also very good. I've owned vibram soled boots before that were absolute garbage. Durability is average, but in my personal experience the comfort is my number one feature in a boot.

BTW, I wear Keen boots at work everyday. I work construction and HVAC service. They hold up nicely. And more often than not I wear their "hikers" and not their work boots like Pittsburgh.

But yes, i get that others have differing opinions. Many guys I work with have tried Keen boots after I recommended them. Most have stuck with them. Some have not. These are guys that wear boots every day and beat the heck out of them. There are more durable boots out there. Absolutely. I'd put Keens overall durability on the average scale. But the comfort and my happy feet make it worth it. No boot I've tried has come close to the level of happy construction feet that Keen has provided. I'm 50 years old and have been wearing boots daily as an auto mechanic and HVAC service/construction guy since I was 18.

As far as the durability thing... I used to have to regularly toss boots at 6 months age even though they weren't worn out or damaged from use. As many/most boots wear in the loose support and my feet were killing me at the end of the day. Sure those boots probably would have stayed together for a couple years, but I couldn't wear them anymore. So how important is longer durability if the boots are killing my feet and need to get tossed? Keens regularly last a year or more for me. And my feet feel great the entire time. More often that not the soles have worn out from walking on concrete and 120 degree asphalt roofs all day.

I know this post is long and a bit of a "cool story bro" post, but I wanted to share my .02 and my personal experience. There is more to a boot than durability. Keen comfort is second to none. Most agree with that, but some don't. And that is my #1 goal in finding a good boot. And yes, the importance of comfort being the most important feature of a boot is my personal opinion. Some people have feet that can withstand any boot, so they may look for durability as the main feature.

Also Keen will fully replace boots that don't hold up for a year. I've done it once a couple years ago. At about 10 months old, the sole would make a high pitched squeak noise when I walked. I believe it was caused by stepping on a nail and air was being pushed out when I stepped. It sounded like a sit second of letting the air out of a balloon slowly. I called Keen to see if there was a cheap fix. It's wasn't really the fault of the boot IMHO, and I wasn't looking to get them warrantied. The guy I talked to said upload a picture of the sales receipt and a picture of the boot. The next day I got a credit coupon code for the retail price of the boot and could pick out any boot on their website and they sent out a new pair.

Yeah, I know. "Cool story bro." Sorry about that. 😏

They pointed out some features that were missing, and said it seemed like the normal price for a boot (I'm assuming for a boot with those features, or lack thereof).

You stated, "But I disagree strongly that these aren't worth $90."

He never said they aren't worth $90, he said that seems to be the normal price. Anything beyond that is you assuming and putting words in his mouth.

True. And the lack of good deals from Cabalas has gotten worse since the Bass takeover. I actually didn't think that was possible.
