Wow! The Flashpoint XPLOR400 Pro (Godox AD400 Pro) is a great deal at $419! Sells for $595-649 normally. I use it and love it!

I'll give you a different advice than many others, TTL is very useful if you want the convenience shooting wide open with a fast lens to get the shallow depth of field for portraits in bright daytime without the hassle for the need of neutral density filter.
The option for TTL is great. You never know when the situation comes up to run on automatic settings. Don't pass up the opportunity.

Does anyone know if there is a way to sync these to an iPhone or one of its many camera apps?
Use the Flashpoint R2 Pro series of transmitter to link to your smartphone through the Flashpoint R2 app on the AppStore and Play Store

Definitely not worth getting or paying extra. TTL is basically an auto mode for your flash. It guesses what would be the best flash output and many times doesn't come out as desired and you still have to dial up and down to suit your taste anyways.
It also causes and annoying double flash before the shot is taken and many times causes the camera to miss focus. I rarely have mis-focus issues when using manual on my flash units.
I have the ad600 manual flash and love it. Also have an ad200 and tt860 and work great as well but never use TTL on those either.
The option is worth it. Manual may be best for controlled lighting situations, but the ability to shoot in TTL mode may save the day.

You can also use the mobile-specific A1 Flash which is also nice to use with your smartphone as a stand-alone mini flash too.

I'm trying to set up my own home studio. Is this a good light to use for my setup? I'm shooting with a Nikon D750
This flash is perfect for home or large studio. Add one of the Flashpoint R2 transmitters for Nikon or a Flashpoint Speedlite for wireless control. More XPLORs will give you true studio lighting.

Thanks. What about light modifiers? I'm thinking octoboxes, one for main light and the other for fill light? I already own two Nikon SB-800 speedlights. I'm trying to get this set up for the holidays to take pictures for friends and family.

This is a great price! I use one with a sizable octobox and love it!
Which brand/size of octobox do you use?

I recently got one of these and was impressed with the quality/price. 38" or 48" would be good.

Can this flash work with Sony A73 directly without buying physical transmitter?

You could set the monolight to Slave mode, and it would trigger when another flash (on camera flash) would activate. The only downside is you have another light source that could potentially throw off the lighting setup you configured.

I just upgraded to Flashpoint Studio Monolights and got a transmitter, was previously using my camera flash to activate the monolights in slave mode, but noticed a second catch light in the subject's eyes which needed removal in post processing. It was worth it to me to upgrade.

In for one. It will be my second one. Love these for portability and use in the field...sometimes a literal field. Don't forget this deal to pair with it:

The a7iii does require the transmitter. I shoot Sony and use this flash system. The A7iii does not have an internal flash that could be used to trigger. This flash does allow you to use a 3.5mm Sync Cord to manually connect with the flash, but honestly the transmitter is so much better. Well worth it.

Do I gain much with the 42" and the 2lb extra weight compared to the octabox?
