Just FYI this model is about 7 years old, has the older pen, and far fewer pressure sensitivity levels than the less-expensive, newer 16 inch model. On the plus side, the newer model doesn't have the integrated buttons.

10 years ago I would say Wacom only, but other companies are really upping their game.
For less then half the price of what Wacom offers, you can get a XP-Pen https://m.storexppen.com/?channel=website

I think for editing photos, you really don't need very fancy features (e.g. tilt). XP-Pen and Huion have some very reasonably priced pen displays. The XP Pen Artist 15.6 Pro seems to have very good reviews and sometimes available for $300. ($355 on Amazon right now.) The non-pro version is $240 but has a lower gamut display so you probably do want the Pro.

I'm already aware this works well with windows, but how does this work on mac? can tell me what sort of adapter it would need? Thanks!

As a hobbyist photographer, this is a dream to get one day, but I have to save money for a new lens first now 😅

Really it just depends: what kind of software are you using, and do you need it to be portable? I use a Cintiq because I work from home a lot and use software that isn't available on the iPad, but if you would like something slimmer and completely portable for illustration and a few other things, then the iPad seems like a better choice.

I haven't messed with design in years but I used to dream of owning a cintiq. I didn't think there would be much use for these with tablets being able to extend Photoshop workspaces

Apple Pencil is pretty damn good. The only thing is you can't really find an iPad with 22inch, and you also won't be carrying a 22inch on the go with you. So it depends on what you want. In terms of how good either pen technology feels, they are about the same.

I'm using it as a monitor everyday because my other monitor died.
This display makes a horrible ips display with extremely dull colors and the worse blacks than any ips in the market.
I have been using it ever since 2014, I would avoid using this display for productivity as the colors that are displayed are way off.
The display also serves as an extreme strain to your eye.
It's not even true ips, it's some kind of a h-ips or whatever.
I would honestly choose my TN display from 2010 over the ips display on the Cintiq 22HD at any day, because the Cintiq 22HD makes TN panels look like what it's like to compare an OLED TV to a CRT.
It's common for Wacom devices to have a software issues, but the Cintiq 22HD really tops the cake in comparison to other Wacom devices I have owned or heard of.
Avoid at all cost, choose alternatives if you're looking for something that is cheaper, XP Pen would make a great alternative.
This display is more trouble for your money than any good.

Also not to mention that Wacom's costumer service sucks ass and have a pretty bad attitude.
Your warranty is good as nothing.

When the ipad pro first came out I bought the smaller version for the sole purpose of making it my travel tablet and used my cintiq mainly to finish my art projects. Eventually I learned to finish all my projects on the ipad and rarely even touched the cintiq so I sold it to buy the larger ipad pro.

I have this and its a true workhorse of a machine. I do digital painting and have the amazon swingarm mount. I bought a used one on CL for around this price a couple of years ago..
You don't need more pressure levels to make professional work. Although the colors are not good for accuracy. I personally never use the touch or buttons as I prefer keyboard for speed.

I also have ipad12" + Apple pencil and much prefer Cintiq (even with the glass). Obviously the portability of the ipad is unbeatable though. The large screen size is great, but it has a huge desk footprint. Interestingly the newest 24" cintiqs get quite hot and have loud fans in order to output 4k. This 22hd is quiet and does not get hot.
Just my 2c.
