Yeah, this is more for my parents' home and they manage to screw up smart bulbs and smart lighting after 3+ years of installing it for them so I doubt removing Voice is an option
Ah parents...I stopped giving them anything smart at all. Just keeping everything 1950s basic. Otherwise I'm playing tech support.

does this suffer from the puma 6 problem?
Even the sb6190 didn't suffer from any puma problems. I have 2x of the sb6190 running a latency sensitive link between them 24x7 across the country and if there was an issue, I wouldn't be able to do this.

how does this compare to arris Surfboard SB6141 ? I was told by spectrum SB6141 can only reach 60mb download
Not according to the spec, but the cable providers config file can limit speeds based on what they want to support on a particular modem.

purchased a used modem .... Comcast said money was owed on the account ....wouldn't activate it ... too late for a return.. threw it in the garbage can .....some things you shouldn't buy used ...
I wouldn't have throw it away--these modems work on different providers and it would have been fine for someone else.

I have lowest Spectrum speed internet & with my vpn downloading is max 5 mps so I don't think I would benefit from this faster modem right?
It depends on if your current modem isn't hitting your plan speed.

If your current modem hits the max plan speeds, you'll gain nothing.

Thanks OP, ordered 1. I'm with Spectrum and have been running an Arris 6141 for 5 years without issue. But I'm maxed at 100 down/10 up. My plan includes 200 down / 20 up, so will be nice to get the bump in speeds with this new-ish modem.
The 6141 supports 343Mbps, so either spectrum doesn't have it configured right or something is wrong with the modem.

I have old Motorola sb6141 with the lowest priced internet spectrum package. Should I get this for a backup since it's cheap? Do these fail at any point in time, mines like 7 years old & I don't plan to pay more for faster service? Thanks in advance.
No, I wouldn't bother with a backup. By the time you need a new modem, there will be other modems to get at this price.

I'm in the same boat. SB6121 is DOCSIS 3.0 but Maximum Theoretical Data Rate is 171.537 Mbps (4 channels) / 42.884 (single channel).

Netgear CM500 on the other hand has 16 down stream and 4 up stream channels with speeds up to 680 Mbps download and upload

The Motorola is June 2012 model, and I'm going to give this a try. Let's see how this goes.
You won't gain anything unless your plan is faster than your current modem, keep that in mind.

It shouldn't. Modems don't fail very often in my experience.

Ok, mines from Amazon 10/12/2012 for $85 after Time Warner started charging monthly fee for theirs. Thanks for your advice. Saves me more $$ for future sd's.
