Just as an FYI, these are "built for Black Friday" models that Samsung sells every year. This model is lower than the lowest model they carry throughout the year. Don't expect much at this price other than what amounts to cheap electronics. And certainly don't use this TV as an indicator of Samsung quality or what they can truly offer.

Moral of the story: I wouldn't touch this thing without an extended warranty.

This or the Vizio 70" at Costco BF?

Thinking of getting 70" be 75" since it's $200 difference between the sizes it seems like.

So I haven't purchased a new TV since about 2007 (had a 67" Samsung DLP) and have been looking at reviews of a similar model as this one from Best Buy.

One thing that struck me is that it appears that some of the Samsung TVs have non-removable ads? Is this true? If so, is this an industry standard practice, or is this just a Samsung thing?

It's barely intrusive. The Ads are on the menu bar of the internal user interface and they appear in one corner.

It sounds like you think ads will play during content - tha is not it.

Samsungs UI isnt the best anyways so dont even bother adding it to your wifi network and problem nullified. Use ethernet when you need to update the firmware and stream with something else.

Note almost every internal TV streaming software has ads if some sort. Almost every player as well. You'll want an Apple or Shield if you dont want ads for the most part.

Thank you. That's very helpful, and I really appreciate it.

I haven't bought a new TV in about 12 years and didn't really know what to expect.

Also, sounds like you had the same TV I had.. That Samsung 67in LED DLP was a beast - one of the best DLP TVs ever made with no bulb needed to change.

Anywhoo... check this link out: https://gist.github.com/peteryate...d4bcef1e52 not much has changed, thats still how ads look roughly on this TV... folks seem to be mortified they can't remove them... I'm the later and they just seem like promos for shows, you'd find anywhere. They aren't "ads" in the sense you'll get harassed to buy a car or soap - just promotes other shows or movies. No big deal to me or other non foil hat wearers.
