This is made of ABS and polycarbonate. The one at costco, the samsonite tech 2.0, is made of 100% polycarbonate. Polycarbonate is more impact resistant and durable, but weighs more. ABS is not as durable but is light.

Depends on what you want.

You're hard pressed to find any site that isn't charging sales tax. You can thank the a-holes in South Dakota for this, along with the US Supreme court circa 2018 that ruled on it. South Dakota vs Wayfair. Wayfair fought it, and lost.

For comparison, Samsonite site is selling this set for $660, though there's a 50% off coupon code (didn't see if it works).

So, is the price overly inflated and $159 is about the real value, or is this actually a deal?

Costco sells a two piece set at $160. How do they compare? I need them. Thanks.

Samsonite website says ABS, no mention of polycarbonate.

Carry-on total height is 23.6"
Even though nowadays size check of carry-on is quite infrequent, this piece is higher than most and may catch the eye of the gate agent.

No TSA lock though. I feel more secure leaving valuables in my hotel in a locked suitcase.

In my experience, spinners suck. I've had 3 different brands, and they break off after light to moderate usage. I'm not doing anything crazy with them. Luggage handlers, and my own handling caused it. I went back to using the old rollerboard wheels (inline skate wheels) Plus, they hold more inch for inch as the wheels aren't included in the dimensions. 22" is generally max for carry on height-or 45 linear inches. You lose about 2" of storage with these types of wheels-or about 8-10% of your space (spinners vs wheeled)

You can buy a small lock that slips through the hole on zipper tab

Samsonite says
"Transport your travel essentials smoothly and stylishly in the Samsonite Sparta. This extremely lightweight and durable Spinner Set features ABS/Polycarbonate shells with corrugated detailing for added strength; absorbing impact by flexing while under stress, and popping back to its original shape, eliminating dents and dings while protecting its contents."
