If this is the one I was considering this morning, it doesn't have a backplate. That's a deal breaker for me in 2019

Edit - yep see picture#5. For me, I'd have spend $20 or so more and get the backplate

I was considering it at Microcenter a couple of days ago and opted against it also because of no backplate. Went for the Founders Edition instead.

How is this compare to the regular 2080
Perfomance-wise, this is just below a 2080ti. The 2080 Super is made with 2080ti chips that don't clock as high.

You can Google for specific benchmarks but it's pretty slight. If you have a 2080 keep it. And buying new, honestly the 2070 super is a much better deal.

What resolution is your monitor at? Do you have plans to go to 4K, 1440p, or are you at 1080p and happy?

id say im content at 1080 as my monitor isnt 4k (34inch at 3440x1440 max), but i wouldn't mind safe guarding for 4k in the future (and VR, which i do every once on a while).

They look nice and provide structural support and lessen the sag on heavy cards.
