The aldis ones are 12". Still a decent price though.

these all showed up today and several SKUs smell of mildew.
A couple had ball point pen marks.

do these squish mallows retain their shape and fluffiness after a wash and dry? I have a few family members skeptical about the chemicals used to make these, so they want to give it an initial wash. Thanks!
Wash as in putting them in washer and dry?

Definitely, if anything, it came out fluffier, but a couple things to keep in mind as someone who just washed mine after receiving it:
  • If you have a top load agitator like I do, make sure your washing machine's big enough. Mine barely fit in there and it got stuck on the way out to the point where I had to gently wiggle it and pull it up section by section. The machine also made some concerning sounds while washing, but I did another load after so it's okay. I definitely wouldn't try it in my top loading machine again.
  • Make sure your dryer has at least one setting with low or medium heat. My dryer literally only has four settings--two of them are high heat, one is air fluff, and the last is perm press. The third fortunately uses medium heat. If you wash a soft synthetic fabric in heat higher than medium, you risk the soft part of the fibers melting.
  • MOST IMPORTANT: Just because it feels dry does not mean it is dry! I am not exaggerating, it took me several hours on medium heat to get mine completely dry. (To be fair, I suspect that my washer for the above reasons did not spin out the water properly so it might take you less time.) Either way, the inside will have water long after the outside dries and if you leave this, mildew will grow. If anyone else has a good trick to make it dry faster, I'd love input.
    • What I ended up doing was squishing it flat so that the water left in the inside stuffing was transferred to the outer part. I had to do a couple times. Reach your hand to the center of the squishmallow after taking it out of the dryer and if there's even a bit of moisture, it means it's still wet inside and needs to go back in.
If you have any more questions about washing this thing, feel free to ask! (if you reply to the comment I should get a notification.) I love mine so much and it's definitely worth the $10.
Thank you for the details..

I was trying to get a green triceratops (now unavailable) for my 5 month old but my bank locked my debit and cc when trying to buy from walgreens. By the time I cleared the transactions they weren't available anymore...

Try Costco in store. The green triceratops was one they had for $9.99 recently (within a couple of months). Not sure if they still have it though.
