Optoma HD27HDR Projector $518

Amazon has the Optoma HD27HDR for $521. Normal price is $649 and the sale price for the last two weeks at Amazon and Best Buy was $579. This projector has HDR and will accept a 4K input that is projected at 1080P. It also has a 120Hz refresh rate and only 8ms input lag so it is great for sports and also gaming. It uses the TI .65 chip so there is no gray box around your picture. It's contrast ratio is 50,000 to 1 and it has 3,400 lumen so it is great for TV and movies even in a somewhat lighted room. The lowest price ever was $518 and I have been waiting for it to come down to $499 but I don't think I am going to be greedy and going to have Best Buy price match this today.

It is $518 today 11/19/19, the lowest price since this projector was released.

Could someone please mark this for the Projectors keyword. I posted this using the SD app and that category was not an option.

Major buyer beware on this projector. It seems like it has a lot of good things about it but quality is definitely not there. Sort Amazon reviews and you will see many people have the bulb or projector die after 6 months.

Optoma also acknowledged this on AVS forum they had a bad batch they said they found a problem with.

The Optima HD27e is currently marked down to $399 on Amazon, other than the ability to accept a 4K signal and then downgraded the imahe to 1080, these are very similar products.

It was a problem with the power driver that was taken care of with a firmware update. This firmware update information is from the same AVS forum you are referring to, why did you choose to omit that part?

This projector really is a great deal. I have a 2012 reference JVC that this will replace. More than double the lumens and HDR support. My current setup is a 4K tv with a drop down projection screen over it. My old JVC confuses the heck out of the receiver. It works but is wonky. This with its hdmi 2.0 solves that dilemma and doubles my brightness.

It was hard to get excited about any of the projectors out there compared to any large flat panel. Non of the projectors check all the boxes and at the cost include old hdmi connections. This gives me the size, low input lag, 120hz, hdr support for only $560 all in. Nice replacement for a few years. All of the cons are minor for $500 bucks.

I know, decisions decisions, for the $120 difference you could almost buy a fixed screed that has the light absorbing black felt around the edge to address the gray box issue with the HD27E.

Dont mislead. If you want a gaming projector this version with 120hz 1080p with 8ms response time is far superior.

For hardcore gamers that's fair, I guess I was looking at it more from a home theater point of view.

Can someone explain the benefit of accepting a 4K signal on a 1080p projector? Is there any noticeable benefit? Is it more around the HDR color, or is there another enhancement to image quality. Just trying to make an educated decision on getting the right projector.

4k downconverted to 1080pwill produce a superior image than 1080p native.

Super rough explanation: imagine a single pixel vs 4 pixels of color averaged to one color. You get better detail with better averaging.

120hz and the 4k signal seem to be the big differences.

It is on sale again for $518. This is the lowest price since this projector was introduced to the market.
