The video card is the only thing this deal has going for it.

This deal looks really good. I am on the fence for sure but have been out of the game for a while. I had a 980 ti in a prebuilt hp five years ago on a low power supply and never had any issues on games whatsoever.

Will wait for more input from the pros

Best Buy there's more than 1/3rd as many 1s as 5 for reviews and only 70% would recommend, that's seldom good.

A lot of reviews of bad airflow and overheating in this case.

I have noticed that reviews on Best Buy are often way more positive overall than you find on Amazon or other sites for the same products... so if something is just slightly negative on Best Buy it could be pretty bad.

But I only play age of empires, so I am no expert.

Which one https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/...3964266631 despite the 100 dollar difference both seem to have cooling issues

If you're buying this for parts, the RTX 2080 is worth it.

It's probably a reference design card, so cooling and overclocking capability is non-existent until you change the heatsink.

Running it as is, the PSU will need to be changed. Do not trust anyone who claims otherwise.

Nvidia's own spec page for the RTX 2080 recommends 650W
A RTX 2080 with these other specs (8700, SSD + 1 HDD) wont ever use anywhere north of 450w more than likely total system draw, if it's a cheap 500w PSU then it could struggle though because you're pushing the limits of that PSU. They recommend bigger wattages in case someone has a highly overclocked CPU, overclocked GPU, multiple/many HDDs, a ton of fans, etc...This has none of that, an 8700 is locked. Highly doubt it's a factory overclocked GPU either.

A quality 500 watt PSU would have no problem running this though. Go in pcpartpicker and spec it out. It's about a 400 watt draw.

As someone who owns this machine:

Psu is a 500w bronze rated LiteOn. Gaming was fine on it for a few months, but i'm not sure if these are good or not so i eventually replaced it.

Case has a vent up top you can mount a 120mm exhaust fan in (it's intended purpose is a radiator) and the bottom vent can kinda be used as an intake. Ive actually added an intake fan below. That's largely solved airflow and thermal issues for me.

MB does only have 2 ram slots, however this machine has 1 single 16gb (HyperX Fury) stick, one slot is empty. Single channel is not ideal obviously, but you can add another 16gb stick in there.

Motherboard seems solid to me, just because it's an hp OEM board does not automatically make it trash. It is kind of a weird board tho as its micro atx sized, but feature wise it feels more like an ITX (only 1 PCIE, 2 mem slots, 2 sata ports) This board gets continuous firmware updates.

It has an additional sata port and drive bay

The case is very nice and easy to work with

I haven't messed around with desktops in a while, but I'd assume it would be quite easy to buy a new case and PSU and that would solve heat and PSU problems.

Read some more reviews from previous deals on this system.

CONS:
Only 2 RAM slots, so you are already maxed out on RAM
CPU Cooler sucks and is loud. Replace this
Lack of adaptability. Not a lot of slots for things apparently.
PSU is underpowered. Replace this
System runs hot, so assuming you are able to find a case with similar positions, it should run better with intake air.
It has one stick of 16gb. So it's easy to add another.

Additionally there is a mount in the top of the case for a 120mm AiO water cooler block (and generic ones fit) so it's not that hard to change it.
