If only they had the 32gb of ram options.... I feel like that's necessary to make these last 3-4 yrs

unless you have tons of disposable income, I'd highly suggest you let this one soak for a few months. Apple has been notorious for kinks with new machine designs for some time now.

Happily still rocking my pre-touch-bar 13 mba, 15 mbp and 17 mbp, plus a mac mini. Wife has current gen 15 mbp.

i disagree by a factor of 2. i think 8gb doesn't cut it anymore, but 16gb is still good enough for the majority of consumers who buy this pro macbook.

The 512gb comes with the 5300 video card. Is the 5500 video card worth to purchase 1tb if I don't need the space ?

Better to buy with a credit card that extends warranty, IMO. Amex is ending Extended warranty on free cards

Is this true even if the purchase was made prior to Jan 1, 2020?

This! If they had the 32gb options on sale, I'd pull the trigger right now. I want to get 5 years out of my MacBook Pro purchase, and I really don't think 16gb is going to cut it in 2024.

I ordered the higher-end one of these a couple of days ago from Adorama at $2549 and it's still on backorder. Is this deal just for today? They aren't available to chat at the moment or I would see if they could adjust. Canceling the previous order online isn't possible or I might just do that and reorder.

Not true, only a few of their cards are dropping it and current up to 2 years extended warranty is still effective if you buy before the change effective date.

AMEX extends just for 1 year.. CITI extends for 2 years though.
Dealing with AMEX is much easier process as they have the insurance processing in-house.
But i would still go with CITI with the extra one year coverage while investing this much amount on something.
