I just picked up a 6v without a battery from resale store and yeah, it gets stuck super easy with only one wheel being powered. You have to be on practically dry flat pavement for it to go. Just a tiny bit of snow/ice/twig will stop it. It's still great fun for really young kids and in some ways, it actually isn't that bad -- my kid learned to do a hop/shimmy thing to try to get traction and to get out and move it around. But I'm looking for the next one...

And you can upgrade these but it gets expensive quick. I was all set to go down that route (add another 6v motor+gearbox to the other side) and then decided to just hold off for a better one later as they do come up forsale used a lot (when the batteries die).

6v are great actually, in some way better than 12v. Because when you then put a 12v battery instead of the 6v it goes faster than a 12v. At leas that's my experience with the 7 various power wheels I have encountered, 5 of them 6v and 2 of them 12v. And the 6v never got damaged after many many hours of complete abuse. I even tried 18v on some, here again the motors did not get damaged.
I've done this before and agree. If other people are inspired, they may need to remove the inline fuse that comes with the car and install a beefier one. The Kid Trax brand has a weak one installed from the factory and it kept on tripping.

You need at least 12V. 6V for babies or up to 3 years old. Super slow, no power, good luck riding uphill.

So even with a 12v battery - will this thing still get stuck in grass and whatnot because it's single wheel drive?

Great way to show kids the future of vehicles will all be electric...now just make some for their gas guzzling parents. Oh, wait...the future is here already! Thumbup But seriously, this thing really needs the Ludicrous upgrade option.

Better off finding a used 12 volt on Craiglist/Facebook for $125 IMO

it will be okay with dry grass. i don't think this one has the rubber around the wheel. will definitely replace the battery with 12v

Can anyone recommend a good 12v option for kids 3-5 years old? We have two kids (3 and 4) and want to find a good one that has room to seat 2. I'm not too familiar with the different brands and their respective qualities. Doesn't necessarily have to be on sale or a deal, just looking for general recommendations.

What?! 3 and under is literally the only time in your kids life you can get away with this. I say do it, they give zero farks, I promise. Now, if it's someone else's kid, yeah, that's weird and will get you the reputation of being chintzy
