Well, 2014 when we could get this for $6 is long gone, so this is about as good as it gets. 16 oz. bottle of McCormick Pure Vanilla Extract for $20.92 after 15% Subscribe & Save discount for 5 or more items.

My $6 bottle from 2014 just before prices went to Saturn is still going strong and tastes fine, or I'd be jumping on this myself...

Been using artificial vanilla extract the past couple years. I would get this one, but i would probably be 2022 before I use it all up. How long do these last?
Does it need to be refrigerated?

Pure vanilla extract has a near-indefinite shelf life. As I said the bottle I still use was purchased in 2014, and is still perfectly fine. The fake stuff goes bad much quicker. It does not need to be refrigerated.

Vanilla extract is like 41% alcohol so it doesn't go bad. It will however lose it's potency so you should try to use it up sooner than later. My bottle I got this year has a "best if used by" date of 2023 btw.

I agree with the OP. I was lucky to get one of these for $8 a few years ago and the prices have just skyrocketed from there. Even at the regular price of about $30 it still beats paying $4 for 1oz at the local store though.

I got this in dec for $12, so while prices have skyrocketed over the years this is hardly a good deal.

This reminds me to get some more vanilla beans. I have 8oz of home made extract left.

This bottle seems cheaper than making your own and you don't have to wait months to use it.

Any idea if this is as strong as home made? I did the 5 beans per cup of vodka recipe.

I go thru a lot of vanilla (we bake a lot).

Buy around 15 or 20 good sized beans (the can be Grade B) on ebay (or amazon) and a 750ml bottle of cheap vodka. Drink enough of the vodka so that the beans will fit then slice the beans lengthwise (on second thought, cut the beans first and then drink the vodka). Put the beans in the vodka bottle and seal it up. Put it in the pantry and give it a good shake every few days for 6 weeks or so... and viola!!!

Leave the beans in the bottle... it will just get stronger as it sits.
