You're paying for free books/stories with this. This is all public domain material. If you're going to pay for media, support the creators of what you want to read, not the grifters regurgitating free material like this, under the guise of some implied special deal advertised here. Seeing how this is free, and it's being marketed with 'Christmas', keep true to that theme and get this for free and pitch two quarters into the guy/gal ringing a bell in front of which ever store you frequent.

For 49¢ is for compiling such a set. 49¢ to not have to go through Google search after Google search locating the books, or finding out which ones are free is worth it. Throw this on a Kindle for a kid? Worth it a thousand times over.

None of that makes this worthwhile. Most cheap compilations are either OCR or text aggregated from Project Gutenberg scans without any sort of QA testing. And isn't this one volume? Do you expect a child to browse through 250 listings in a table of contents? You can find separate versions of the more popular classics, complete with covers and (sometimes) even free narration. That's what people would want for a gift. Not 250 text files that may or may not be legible.

A thousand times over? LOL If you're smart enough to login to Amazon, you should be smart enough to use Google. It's not like these are hidden on the dark web or obscure newsgroups. There's a good chance that when you find the first one that you want, you'll find all the rest and thousands more. But if you think spending $500 on free books is worth it, you're beyond any logic I can provide. But do your kid a favor, don't load them up on Dickens. Not the best material to inspire a passion for reading at such a young age.
