likely grey market, but good price nevertheless. FYI, Sigma is also coming out with a native FE 24-70mm f2.8 Art lens so I can see Tamron will be under some pressure to lower the price at some point

Not necessarily... the Sigma is going to be $1100 out the gate so even if it was slightly better than tamron this price keeps it in a good spot.

I was planning to buy the Tamron before christmas. Thoughts on this? Will Tamron still honor the 5year?

Kind of a stinky deal because they were originally $799.. they had such huge demand that Tamron ended up raising it by $100

Grey market. You won't get the warranty, which is actually 6 years from Tamron. But you can get a similar price to this from Greentoe.com. They guarantee an authorized dealer, brand new with warranty. I got mine for $780 (including tax and shipping) in August. It's a fantastic lens.

That's great! Did you get yours yet? If so did you register it yet?

Thanks, I didn't know that. They currently countered to 850s because they charge tax in CA....

Are you talking about a Greentoe counter offer? You can wait a little longer and also raise your own offer slightly. Multiple stores will usually make offers. You should generally start at a lower price than you want to pay. And you get a receipt from the authorized retailer, not Greentoe. Greentoe just facilitates the sale. I got my lens in August.

Still can't get it under 845 w/tax. trying to replicate your deal. What did you start your bid with?

I think I started with something like $680. I always do a 7 day offer. Got an initial counter at something like $849 I think. Then upped my offer to around $700 or so, gradually increased. I got counters around $829, upped my offer a few times to $780 eventually, which was accepted a day or so later.
