PSA: Private Internet Access VPN sold to Kape Technologies

For those of you who use PIA the company was bought out by the group that owns CyberGhost VPN which has a less than stellar privacy record. It may be worth looking elsewhere for VPN service if you are using PIA.

Why? The Reddit post was from PIA themselves...

Thanks OP. TU for useful information for me and other users.

Expected to close in early 2020. Kape will adopt the PIA name.... oh the goodwill built by PIA over the years will undoubtedly carry over to the malware of a company Kape appears to be.

Will they push malware to PIA customers? If their history is any measure, yes, malware will probably be pushed and your data will be sold.

On the hunt for a new provider. Any suggestions? I keep reading Mullvad as an option.

Here's a read on the history of the parent company and their name change from Crossrider to Kape Technologies. https://restoreprivacy.com/cyberghost/

Credit to bengalih on page 5 for a link to a post from the founder of PIA regarding the merger with Kape (I'm still not sold - guiding principles are fine and dandy but parents tell their children what to do and the checkered past of Kape in folding the Kape brand into PIA on a go forward basis will be definitely mislead/deceive. Recall that the acquiring company, Kape had already changed names from Crossrider (Israeli company) and now to PIA. Why the change? Poor brand reputation of Kape/Crossrider): https://www.privateinternetaccess...r-freedom/

If you are concerned at all about real privacy and a company to back it up, Mullvad, AzireVPN, and AirVPN are all solid and reputable companies. Although AirVPN's forums and tech support can be hand to work with if you are not an advanced user.
