I grabbed one of these recently, and I can't tell you enough how awful the screen is. It color shifts if you move your head slightly. The colors are blown out.

I didn't expect an amazing screen, but this one isn't even average. I returned mine the following morning.

Sorry but you're over exaggerating quite a bit on the TN panel...I bought one of these for sport during staples deal @$199 and while the screen isn't great by any means, on high brightness it's more then passable for a web browsing/Netflix machine... (and I own a new MBP w/ Retina display and have a strong appreciation for the difference). If you're viewing from side angles agree it's horrible

Howso? I've had one repair done and it was a breeze. Free shipping back and forth and the laptop has basically been on nonstop for the past 5 years and hasn't had a problem since.

I agree, but I do remember a lot of people saying the screen isn't great on it in the last thread (and for a $250 laptop with 1080p how much can you expect) so keep it in mind. Not a deal breaker at all, but for some it might be

I was about to buy any laptop around that price range with 1080p screen. However, a visit to local Best Buy and Walmart quickly changed my mind when it comes to display quality. I realized how crappy most TN panel display on sub-$300 laptops. Most not only have poor viewing angle (well known by most people), but also lacks sharpness and most have this unpleasant blue color cast (yuck!).

I quickly decided that IPS panel is a must. That's when I came across Acer Aspire 5 (2019). Less than $300 certified refurbished, very easy to upgrade (RAM: up to 32 GB (2 slots), M.2 NVMe (Gen3) SSD, available 2.5 SATA bay), and has a respectable IPS FHD display.

You should have tried the Costco HP 14" for 279.99 which accidentally had 10th Core i5 in it. I picked two and already upgraded it to 512gb SSD and 16gb RAM. I m pretty happy with the 1080 screen this has
The deal is now gone and the same laptop is 399.99 since yesterday

Listen to this person. I bought the Staples Lenovo deal where people were warning others about the display, and other people who were all "for this price, what do you expect for the display?". The display on that thing is so bad I was straining my eyes and had to return it. It didn't even come close to the laptop that I was replacing it with that I got for $300 over 5 years ago.

Thought about buying this one and absolutely heeding the display warning this time around. Don't cheap on your eyes, folks.
