How do these sound compared to the Homepod or Bose 450?

Yes, but they still sound great. No mics built into these for voice control if that matters to you.

Great deal! The pair of Sonos One's can be combined and used as surround speakers with the Beam or Playbar. By the way, I've seen the Sonos Sub at Costco for $649.

The Sonos Play:1 can't be combined with a Sonos One to make a stereo pair, can it?

This is the older version. It sounds reasonably good on its own, but we've found that if you have newer generation speakers in other rooms, the worse audio quality is very noticeable.

Nope, the Play:1 can't be paired with the One.

They can't be mix and matched for making pairs but these Play 1 already come as a pair. You can use a pair as rear speakers, combined with a a Beam for instance. Also you can always use this pair as stereo pair and your Sonos One as a single speaker, play the music on all the speakers at once, as if they would be an array.

I have several Sonos throughout the house and I can decide on how many I want to play. Some of them are in the same room or open space.

These are great and sound amazing. I have them in separate rooms. You can play music on both at the same time, either the same music or different music. One thing to note if your new to Sonos. These don't have Bluetooth. They function via WiFi.

How are these controlled from iOS? It's my understanding these older ones do not have Airplay 2 compatibility.

You can use the Sonos app, which works very well with most music services. There is no youtube however.
What you can also do with these, is use them as secondary to another Sonos that has AirPlay built in. You AirPlay to that enabled speaker and then as many Sonos as you want can mirror and play the same thing.

Would you guys still recommend Sonos sound bar with this as surround system? The original Sonos sound bar is quite dated by now if I remembered correctly.
