Just a heads up. If you have a Marshall's in your area, Catan and Ticket to ride are $25 each in the holiday item section. I just got both this week. They had a ton. Otherwise this is a great deal. I'll probably grab 7 wonders.

Ticket to Ride is the best! Pretty much the gateway drug to Settlers of Catan. Plus, it's fun when playing with adults only too. They also have other maps, with slightly different rules, which are fun too. New York is a much smaller map made for a younger kid, and might make it an easier to transition the traditional map. I recommend this 100%!

That's good price for the boards. Waiting for deals on expansion packs for Catan.

Good prices for the classics if you don't already own them. Also waiting for a deal on the expansions.

Is this the cheapest Catan will get outside of a resale?

If you were to introduce one of these strategy games to a nine year old boy, which of these three would be most fun and age appropriate. Do any of them work with a minimum of 2 players? Thanks!

I love all three games.

Ticket to Ride is the most accessible. It's relatively simple and easy to learn, but is predominantly strategy-based (unlike say Monopoly).

It's also the only game of the three that can be played with two people.

As a side note, there are Ticket to Ride maps (like Nordic Countries) that are shaped to work better for fewer players, though the standard boards will get the job done as well.

We have all 3 and my kids have been playing since they were 8 yrs old. They enjoy all of them but ticket to ride is the easiest to grasp and get started. I would rate 7 wonders as being the most complex among the three. It takes a few plays to get the hang of and maybe a little complex for a 8 year old.
