Trying to Help Neighbor Find Replacement Budget Laptop After Flood.

69 34 November 24, 2019 at 08:13 AM
Hi all! I've received great help on these forums in the past finding a great refurbished computer for my work and I thought I would try again and look for help from you experts. You guys seem to know where to find computers that meet everyone's needs!

My neighbor's laptop was damaged in a basement flood. His only use for the laptop (according to him) is internet, email, word/excel, and itunes. I was hoping there would be something below the $300 range as he is tight on $$. Also, an SSD hard drive would be helpful as well. I told him I'd try to help and this is the first place that I'm trying to get advice. Please help me shop (maybe ebay used computer would work?)

Thanks everyone and appreciate your help!

Try the Dell Outlet looking for an i3 or i5 based laptop and applying the applicable coupon code during Black Friday. Should be able to get something close to $300.

Or look for Ebay used for similar type stuff for an i5 5th gen or better...should be able to get something decent for under $200.

I like that first one for the price but 4gb and 128gb storage is deadful on a modern machine. OP can probably make 128gb work for now given funds are low but I would upgrade to 8gb ram if at all possible. Quicker and easier to upgrade ram then storage, but spinning drives are just so outdated in 2019.

hey when you have a limited budget and I think these systems have the memory soldered on. I would suggest a chromebook except for itunes

The drive you could swap out later.

Not sure where you are located but mircocenter has this refurb in Denver

https://www.microcenter.com/produ...ed---black
Dell Latitude E6430 14" Laptop Computer Refurbished - Black
Intel Core i5-3320M Processor 2.6GHz; 8GB RAM; 500GB Hard Drive; Intel HD Graphics 4000

It is 206 you could add a SSD for less than 100 bucks. I would check any national chain like microcenter or frys even tigerdirect.

Search Acer Aspire on SD. There's a deal on Amazon $300 with 1080p IPS 15in.

There's also a lower quality one for $210 Staples coupon
