Got one from the local Best Buy.... employee was "too busy" to check the boxes for me to see if any said i5 (even though they weren't that busy) so I just picked up what they had for me and it was an i3. I'm sure he didn't believe me about some of them having an i5 (assuming that claim is true).

I ordered on to be shipped to see if I get an i5.

I will probably return one of them.
Had the same experience. Claimed they were "busy" and couldn't check. Said that if there was a different processor it would have a different SKU, even though there's literally only 2 different SKUs-1 for each color. Best Buy is a joke. Good luck to anyone that finds one with the i5.

I think im gonna wait out for the c434 with 8 gb ram deal.

It just seems like a better quality built laptop.

Heads up, some of these use an i5 instead of i3. Went to BB asking for a gold one and the guy looked for it mentioning how HP messed up and used i5 on some for whatever reason while using the same product number for the i3, so rang up at deal price. Go try your luck for an i5 for some more power! Here's the side of box and CPU X Android app for those curious:

(Shot in the dark but if you're around the Westminster Mall BB in California the sales rep said he had 5/6 more of the i5 versions. Go get it!)
Anyone else get lucky and come across an i5? Went to two stores here in NYC and were all i3's. Gonna pick up the i3 tomorrow.

That gets an average rating of 3.5 on Amazon where people are typically easily impressed so I'm curious.

I had the blue one for awhile and it was by far the best chromebook I've ever used.

How to ensure that we get one? How to check the processor on chromebook. Does it show up in settings > about?
Unfortunately if looks like it'd be random to get one if you order online and if the sales rep in store wants to check the boxes for you.

From what it looks like going to settings > about only shows the version of chrome being used.
If you want to check technical specs directly on a Chromebook there's a really detailed list when you plug chrome://system into a new tab. If you're looking for a simpler breakdown for just CPU/RAM etc I'd recommend an android app like CPU X to pull the basics for you!

NONE of these have an i5. All of these have an i3. The two models are 14-DA0011DX and 14-DA0012DX. They differ only in color. They both have an i3. None of them have an i5.

These have the same specs as the 14-da0021nr model on the HP website. There is nothing sketchy about them. They are excellent. The Asus C434 does have a brighter screen. It also costs more and has a less powerful processor. Two totally different HP business models,5MG05AV_MB and 8QL35AV_MB, are available with i5 and 7th or 8th gen i7. It costs more.

I was at the store trying to get the 11DX with i5 but they didn't have any out on the floor and csr only was able to find 2 in the back. The one he brought out was an i3.

There was a stack of 12dx on the floor and about 1 in 4 had the i5 label. I grabbed 2 of the i5 labeled ones and rang up as 350 each.

May stop by another store to see if I can find an 11dx with i5.

Respectfully, this seems very hard to believe. I'm not sure what would make it less hard to believe. If possible, could RetailMess and/or supernorman please somehow help make it easier to believe?

Not sure what other proof you're looking for. I posted pic of my two boxes.

Well, if true, that is awesome for you. This is unheard of in the community of people who work with and discuss Chromebook details every single day. (I can only recall one instance of this happening in the past two years and that happened with just one single unit from a different manufacturer.) These particular HP models are well discussed in the Chromebook community and no one has ever reported this before. These items will sell for a high price on ebay. HP might even buy them back from you at a price considerably higher than you paid.

My best guess is HP needed to make enough for BB for BF and had extra i5 stock vs i3. Win for those who know what they're looking for. Now to see if I can find a blue i5. Only 2 success reports are for 12dx gold model. I should have taken a picture of the whole stack at the BB I was at. Like I said, rough scan was about 1 in 4 out of the stack of 40 were i5 labeled. Or like you said, stock up on i5 for resale but not really my goal.
