I thought it was free? Does the $5 get rid of the annoying banner or something?
Although it is free, you need to watch the 10-second "please donate" ad every time you change stations.

Sorry, I didn't know that (I just recently discovered the service). If it doesn't meet your needs hopefully it helps someone else.

Btw, for anyone who says they can't get OTA, check out https://antennaweb.org/ or https://www.tvfool.com/ before you give up.

You could get an inexpensive yet powerful antenna and install it in your attic.

I got this one for my father in law and he's really happy with it. Another model may work better for your location, see the links above to do research.

FYI, if you happen to subscribe to a premium 247 sports subscription, CBS All Access commercial free is now included free.

I will note that PBS Kids and Noggin are both excellent for preschoolers for a few reasons. 1. No ads (can't emphasize how important this is for young children) 2. Alexa support for Cube/Dot so you can bark commands at will. 3. Back-log of content from my childhood. Lots of chill stuff from the 90's.

If you have a cable login, you can use the Nick Jr app instead of noggin, and PBS Kids has a free app. But you lose out on the features listed above. But at least you have choices.

I remember when streaming was cheaper than basic HD cable.
It is. you shouldn't need more than 3 services at a time. It's month to month so you can swap often. Comcast was charging us $120/mo for non-HD. Now we pay half. Yes, it it slightly more work, but $720 a year saving is nothing to sneeze at.

CBS All Access runs free month commercial free promos so often that there's no reason to subscribe. Catch up when they have them - been doing that for a few years, and not changing email addresses, as once you try the service you're considered a former subscriber which they target. And the first time you cancel you get offered an additional free month.

Don't know if this works going through Amazon Channels, but direct through CBS always has.

Seriously considering PBS. Anyone have any thoughts on it?
That is a PBS niche channel of lifestyle shows. A lot of cooking shows, travel and other things for the home and family.

Don't expect to find NOVA or FRONTLINE here.

The PBS network app has all the good stuff from broadcasting and it's free.
