If you have a Costco membership, the dewalt 173 piece polished chrome set is still on sale for $79.99 in store and online (although backordered currently so shipping will be later)

This is a pretty good set for the price, its nice because unlike a lot of these sets, it also includes a number of drill bits that dont completely suck . Its missing some of the other things you can get from similar priced sets (pliers, wrenches, a decent knife) its a good value for its price, and if your looking for an around the house this one is pretty good.

Yea that deal is great too.. I just preferred the quick release ratchets which are included in this set. But if that's not a problem than the Costco deal is better.

I have a bigger set from an SD deal years ago and it's the best tool set I've ever owned. Assuming the quality is still the same, I don't see how you can go wrong with either one.

Why do these big socket sets include duplicate of every socket just in different drive sizes? That's the most annoying thing ever.

For higher torque needs. It's def not a bad thing, though I understand your point.

I like the different drive sizes. Sometimes the 3/8 drive socket won't fit where you are working but the 1/4 will.

So just make everything the same drive size and include more varying sizes of sockets. It seems like a complete waste

How so? Wouldn't they be the same diameter? Except maybe sockets under 3/8". But that only affects 3 or 4 sockets. Why duplicate 20 of them?

Sure, that would be cool too; but it would also be a different set, not one meant to cover a broad range of needs by the average user. I hear ya, I don't know why there aren't more sets like you're saying.

I think he largely means the wrenches are smaller, which is true and a great point I didn't even think of initially. But the sockets themselves are smaller too because they don't have to be built to cover the larger mounts even though they're the same size.

But by duplicating all the sockets, wouldn't this actually cover a smaller range of needs? When are fewer size choices a broader range? Be it 1/4" drive or 3/8" drive, you still have four 1/2" sockets in one set
