This theory was debunked by an battery "expert" and later on acknowledged by the author.

"The battery information is slightly wrong. Yes, the V10 battery is larger because it has 1 x INR20700A 30A Sanyo cell more (7 instead of 6), but it is basically the SAME type of 20700-cell as in the V7 and V8. Dysons "15 years" life time claim is based on estimates on how the average consumer uses the battery. This is NOT to say that the battery of the V7/V8 would be much different as the technology is the SAME. The cycle time is about the same - 800 - but thanks to the extra cell, I'd say life time - increases maybe +15%. So comparing 2 years and 15 is a "slight" overstatement. I am a hobbyist battery-technician and not an expert but Dyson hasn't invented a secret Lithium technology that LG, Samsung, Sony or Panasonic don't know about."
Interesting. Good info. Thanks for reading into it a bit more than me. I was scanning several of these comparison pages. This changes things slightly for my decision as I am still unsure if the small benefits of the V10 is worth the additional $100.

I have a few Dysons, one of which was a handheld refurb from a few years back that we use for spot cleaning around the house and for the cars and it's held up great. We picked up a V7 recently on a previous deal and gave the old one to the inlaws. I'm thinking there's a lot of buyers remorse with them which is why they end up with so many refurbs but have had no issues with durability / quality. Our canister Dyson is approaching 10 years old at this point
I might have buyers remorse if I'd paid full MSRP for my V7 Fluffy ($400+?), but I got it for $200 and love it.

V10 is only 100 bucks more. I have both v8 animal and v10 absolute, and the v10 is quite an upgrade.
The V10 is kind of big/clunky by comparison if you ever plan to use it as a "dust buster" in the car or on stairs.

Why was this the sweet spot?
50 bucks more than the animal version includes a 180 dollar hardwood fluffy brush instead of the bristle Motorhead. If you have any hardwood it's the best deal. I'm still contemplating though, 300 is a lot when I can just use my broom instead lol.

Reading such great comments from everyone with so much knowledge and experience to Share... I got the v7 200$ animal on the previous deal but all my floors are hardwood/tile so am not even sure if I made the right choice... I was reading that fluffy is good for hard wood floors... Had no idea until now... Then came the sale for v8 animal for 250 again not sure if this would be right for my floors... And now I see this sale on absolute for 300 so now am torn... What's the best at a reasonable price...

Ahh ok. Much better answer thanks. Peace

However the fluffy brush is this one?

Only $99 not $180, but still a $50 savings makes sense.

I'm with you on the hardwood thing. I have hardwood but its so easy to clean, I'm getting it more for the carpet with hardwood being secondary.

If you already have a v7, you can buy the fluffy head attachment, but It is $100 by itself. So, it may make sense to get the v8 absolute which includes all new stuff (battery, charger, vacuum, fluffy head, motorized head, mini motorized head, and the free tool kit for registering), the v8 absolute may be more cost effective in parts alone.

For your situation with all hard floors, you definitely need the fluffy head attachment.

I have a v8 absolute and 'absolute'-ly LOVE it. $300 is a steal. FWIW.

Best of both worlds with a little less battery life and 100 bucks less. It is a good sweet spot
wasn't the v10 on sale for $300 like 2 weeks ago?

Thanks for the help. My second concern was hair getting stuck in those heads.. the animal attachment catches long hair and I don't see myself religiously cleaning the head with all that hair... I saw something on prime day that kinda washes and vaccums tiles/Harwood floors... But that's a different product line so I may be comparing apples to Oranges here... It wasn't a Dyson and it was a combo deal of a floor washer and a small hand held vaccum. I took too long on deciding that deal on prime day. But just sharing my thoughts and needs... Thanks again everyone. ps that prime day combo deal was for little over 300 and I believe if anyone is wondering and Saw that deal...

I'm not sure if it's the Absolute or what the differences are but QVC has a Dyson V8 for $250.

I was leaning towards purchasing the V8 over the V10 intil I saw the V8 battery lifespan is 2 years and a replacement costs $50. The V10 battery life is at least 15 years. I think the V10 is the better choice if you plan on keeping more than 5 years.
If both v8 and v10 use standard lithium ion battery, I don't see how battery life can be 15yrs. 5yrs would already be a stretch
