Your DNA contains valuable information about you. Don't give it to the corporate world and also paying them to have it. If anything, they should be paying you.

I discovered a previously unknown nephew and a number of 2nd and 3rd cousins through DNA tests. Thankfully, they did not have the same uninformed beliefs as yourself or we would never had connected! Whew.

I'm glad it worked out for you. If my opinion is uninformed or not, time will tell. I can only tell you, I worked for a company providing essential human services and they are salivating at the opportunity to use DNA data to determine the cost of their services. When you voluntary provide your DNA, these collection companies can and do sell it for profit.

I'm trying to help you be less uninformed.

Virtually every company sells data they collect to other companies. But for DNA companies, that data is anonymized so that there is no way to tie YOU to any data. Second health insurance and employer companies cannot use any DNA data they find about you do to the GINA law. Look it up.

Here's some articles about data collection/selling you might find interesting.

It's way too difficult to find out what data companies are collecting about you.

And don't forget that Facebook is huge seller of YOUR data!
