Fishing Deals: 30% of Dobyns Rods at Amercian Legacy + more

Now this is slick. Dobyns rods are some of the best rated mid tier rods out there. Most will actually suggest they fish like high tier rods, orochi, exprides, high end gloomis etc. I've ordered multiple slx combos from them without issue. Had a rod tip break in shipping they sent another out as soon as it was back in stock

I don't see the 20% off panfish rod plus now Fishusa started charing taxes so it kills the deal.

Sorry, it must of ended, but I would bet there will be another one or even better sale for Black Friday. That was the best deal that I could personally find on that rod, because a lot of places exclude St. Croix for their sales.

If you like Dobyns, Gary Dobyns told me that a entirely new Dobyns Series is coming out in the next couple of weeks that include a 7 ft panfish rod. This was a week ago, so it should be coming out in a week or so. Dobyns did just release their first panfish rod back in August 2019, but it was 6ft and in the Colt Series. I asked Gary if it was just going to be a Panfish rod added to another Dobyns series or a new series entirely, and I was told it was a new series entirely.

Just trying to justify $120 for a rod that can snap like any other rods. I got almost all 7ft rod from BnM to all the Lews Wally Marshall rods but still looking to buy more. I got a problem lol.

The Dobyns Xtasy is every bit of a top of the line rod. It cost the same as a NRX and while it might not be as sensitive as the NRX, were talking about splitting hairs. The Xtasy has the best components you can get today, the NRX is a pretty old rod now. The recoil guides make the NRX hard to beat for sensitivity, but lacks fighting power. The Xtasy has Titanium Torzite guides that alone cost a couple of hundred dollars and a blank made out of nano technology, a AAAA full cork handle, and it looks way better than the NRX.

The only other rod that may even be better than the Xtasy is the Shimano G Loomis Conquest with the MBR action. The Xtasy is more of a jig & worm rod, but the Conquest can do it all. The only bad things about the Conquest is that it's $650 and it looks exactly like a NRX.

Most of the higher end rods like Dobyns and G Loomis have lifetime warranties. Even if you snap it in half on purpose, you pay a small portion to get it replaced. It might not be that good of a warranty for $120 rods if you have to pay $60 for a replacement, but it's better than nothing. And it is a really good warranty for the high end rods that cost $400-$500+.

You absolutely don't have to have high priced fishing gear. I record all of my fish catches and upload them to youtube, and this season I caught over 400 fish on a 6'0 Ugly Stik Gx2 2 piece that I got from Walmart for $9 on clearance, paired with a Abu Garcia Black Max baitcaster for $35 from Walmart. They are great rods for moving baits, but I was still noobish and used it for a lot of plastic worm fishing this season and it did surprisingly great, I only gut hooked less than 2% of the fish caught.

These more expensive rods aren't going to make you a better fisherman, but they will make it more enjoyable and more fun even when you aren't catching fish. And, they will last you a lot longer also. And, with some of these prices, you could buy an Xtasy for $400 and use it for a year or two and sell it for close to what you paid for it.

Been looking at a BnM Catfish rod, but right now leaning towards a Whisper Seeker, since I can't find any Rippin Lips for sale.

Good points. Some people say the more expensive rods are more sensitive, so you can feel more bites that you would have maybe otherwise missed. This is more important for things like bottom contact baits, like jigs, worms, etc.

Ive been very impressed with my sixgill rods. They have a very good bogo sale for Black Friday.

I am in no way a sixgill fan boy, I buy all types of fishing gear and brands, I'm not loyal to anyone brand. I'm not forcing anything on anybody, but give them a check out on FB.

have a fury 735c and really like it. want a 702sf but it'll have to wait til spring.

I see it isn't the sporting good store. But it is still a great deal. These are some of the best rods made. The thing that really sets them apart from the rest is their price. Your going to get a much better bang for your book by going with Dobyns.

I agree with all of this. Though I do have some lures that I'll only use with good rods. It's about feeling my surroundings. Being able to tell snags, holes and bites apart. A good rod will give you that.

The biggest risk you take here is you can't do the hand test. I used a split st croix mojo a few years back. Pulled in a good 100 bass the same day but most were under 2 lbs. The issue was my hand started to hurt. But I kept going trying to ignore it. That was my mistake. I had to return the rod. Upgraded to the legend and all was good. But that price. Then I found Dobyns. With them I could get a good rod for less than 300. Couldn't be happier with them.

American Legacy is great about shipping rods. They come faster than most places and come in a nice tube container that protects the rods well, and like you said if something does happen, they will take care of you and make it right.

Yep, it helps to have a sensitive rod for your bottom contact baits and finesse applications, but you can spend less for cranking applications and frog rods. The Xtasy 755c is a great jig rod and will also throw a frog, even though you don't need all that sensitivity for frog fishing. It also punches great. I usually prefer rod 7'3 or under and was set on the Xtasy 724c for a long time, but at the last minutes changed it for the 755c, because it will combine better with my G Loomis Conquest 843c.
