Be easy.... looked around, didn't find much difference between classic i and ii and difference was coming around 300$ after shipping and taxes even after the most recent deal.
So ordered from walmart..

Little tip/trip from a seasoned, lazy charcoal griller, I use either a small cordless hand fan, or my dewalt 20v variable speed eaf blower on lowest speed (which ever is closest at the time) to feed air to the charcoal while the electric starter is lighting it, gets my charcoal roaring and ready in a couple minutes.

This is the Classic I, which is the original Kamado Joe model. I own the Classic II, which has the same 18" diameter but includes:

New air lift hinge
New firebox (when yours cracks, you'll get new one later so not sure if this one matters)
New Latch and gasket
New top for vent control

For me, the air lift hinge is worth the extra dollars. I have no opinion on the other upgrades since I don't know what the originals were like.

For comparison purposes, the Classic 2 goes on sale for $799 a few times a year atAtlanta Grill Company [atlantagrillcompany.com] (next sale is Dec. 7th.), and I assume at other stores around the country. If you can find it locally or with free shipping, it's a great deal.

I bought one a few years back. It takes about 30 minutes to get going. If you're looking for a grill for weeknight dinners, I recommend a gas grill.

This grill is great for smoking meats, making pizza, and searing at very high temps. Downsides are the amount of time it takes to get going and you smell like smoke afterwards.

Copped one on this deal last week. It's an amazing grill plus Kamado Joe basically offers a lifetime warranty.

That's no lie. At 7 grills I'm pretty much at max capacity right now too lol.

I am looking into this for a gift for my husband. How long does it take to be ready to cook? We haven't used charcoal in years.

Electric starter can get it going in about 10. If you use a larger torch..5 mins

Wow. A great deal! I've been on the lookout for the BGE or this one. But please, can someone tell me what's the actual size of this egg? The height maybe?

Is 18 the diameter?

great deal. i have had this exact model for a few years, and just added the Big Joe 3 version to my patio two weeks ago. The new upgrades they offer are great, but the classic model is a workhorse and absolutely worth $600.

Def recommend jumping on this if youre in the market for a ceramic kamado.
