Not to be a Debbie Downer but Qnap has still yet to remedy the Qsnatch malware for nearly a month now. The lack of transparency is...troubling.

I would seriously reconsider getting anything from qnap. The qsnitch malware is no joke and almost a month after it's infected tons of qnaps they still haven't given is an updated firmware fix or even made a specific statement on how to avoid getting it.

Check your AMEX. I had a $25 off $250 offer too

The 453Be is a great little NAS. Have one going on a year and it works well.

$390 -- but some people (self included) got it for around $300 with the Amex 20% deal.

Sweet. Going to cancel my BH Synology order. You can put in a 10gb card and get 10gb speed.

Bought this last year around Black Friday for $379. Definitely cheaper than it's been.

Can someone pls explain why 2 bay is more expensive than 4 bay? And do drives need to have the same capacity?

Sorry never used a NAS system.

I got the 453Be during the sale (+20% Amex) last year. Added some RAM. It's making for a great 4x8 TB NAS in my man cave. I can use it for Plex 4K, but I primarily use it to source 4K MKVs to all the Nvidia Shield TVs in my house. Easy to set up and maintain -- this coming from someone who had little to no NAS experience coming in.

4 bay is more expensive than 2 bay b/c it can hold more drives

there are 2 bays more expensive than 4 bays, but that's bc the 2 bays would have better specs (ie mid-tier 2 bay price vs base model 4 bay price )

if you are on the fence between 235Be and 453Be....get the 453Be for long term

they don't need to have the same capacity but in this type of raid system you will only get the lower capacity across all drives. There are some solutions that allow you to pool mixed drives, but if you're asking this question in the first place those are likely going to be out of your wheelhouse.

I paid $419 for my TS-453Be last year BF from newegg. Still worth it run plex 24/7, on a small form factor machine that doesn't put excessive heat in my small home office.

Thank you! I've been waiting patiently for it to drop to this price again.
