How do these compare to the Apache cases from Harbor Freight?

About the same, these days. The burping mechanism & some of the locks have minor differences. Most people agree its not worth the difference in price -- so whichever is cheapest, get that one. Wheeled is useful if they are larger. Also, the placement of the handle is important depending on use.

Just make sure its the right size, and has the basic features you need (wheels/handle) in the position that's ergonomic for you (for instance, plane trips vs. carrying around). If you're using with high pressure changes and rafting/heavy water, then read the reviews carefully.

But yeah, try to save your money if its just basic use, and spend instead on internals like really good foam or divider system and netting/pouches for misc. stuff, and proper locks for flying or home use.

More variance in quality control from Apache but functionally not significantly different. You're mainly paying for lifetime warranty on a Pelican vs 90 day warranty on an Apache.

Checkout with a Chase Freedom card via PayPal for 5% cashback.

Folks planning on making $250+ in purchases from Adorama can also consider using an American Express card with the offer for $25 back on $250 in purchases.

Noticeably better when it comes to fit and finish. They're also available with padded dividers and in many different sizes.

If you're going foam, it's probably not worth the extra cost at full retail.

But if you're going padded dividers, they're surprisingly expensive. So going with the 5800 Apache ($99) + padded dividers (cheapest I see is $45 from China on eBay) is about the same as the 1510 w/ padded dividers in this sale. You can probably get a coupon for the Apache to save a bit, but as an owner of the $45 dividers, they're definitely not as nice as the ones that come with the Pelican.

Bought the one with padded dividers last time there was an SD sale. After using it for 6 months and using it for storing different camera setups, I should have bought one years ago. The cases are made with high quality parts and the padded dividers allows me to easily change the layout. Fully loaded it is pretty heavy, so the wheels are nice when needed.

What's the ultimate customizable foam insert? I really like the hard films it's included with the smaller of the two small Milwaukee pack out kit variance the original one had aluminum corners the new one has none of that but it has a different form insert than the one they sell separately that's already molded to each tool and it's far denser, It has virtually zero compression when you apply pressure unless it's serious force

Best investment for me when I got my first one. Getting a second one to store my monolights for travel. If you're thinking of saving and getting the Harbor Freight one then buy padded dividers it'll end up costing the same. So just get this. But if you will stick with the foam inserts then get the Harbor Freight option.
