Why would anyone not mulch? It's easier and it's free fertilizer for your lawn. I've been mulching for 25 years and never understood why I bagged before that and why anyone still does.

Talking generally about lawns and free fertilizer, I'm surprised more people don't plant clover in their yards. It adds significantly more nitrogen to your soil and keeps moisture in there too. It used to be standard in all premium grass seed until broadleaf weed killer was introduced.

Edit / addition:
If your not a fan of regular white clover, check out micro clover. It's smaller, lower growing, and flowers less.

Got one for $24 and it definitely sucks (in a good way), you can hear the difference as soon as you start the mower. It did cut a good 5 minutes or more of runtime from the battery.

If you want to go way back in the day, I don't think mulching was even a feature on mowers. It was either put the bag on or discharge it.
