Very interesting. I have several models of kwikset locks (rentals), but have never seen or heard of the model 888.

Will do some research and post anything of interest.

For example if somebody was trying to brake in to my home, how would this hold up? would it notify me?

I didn't realize the "non smart" keypads had gotten so cheap. $50-60 depending on color at Amazon. I've got a keypad on my front door and love it. Unfortunately, I haven't found one thin enough for the security door from my garage to my house.

I use a lot of other smart-home things but don't really feel the need to have my lock paired. My front door can be paired but the only thing I ever used it for was setting guest keys.

Can't speak on its durability, but in general smart locks can trigger automations or notifications if they are locked or unlocked. Probably won't do so if the door is smashed through but the lock is still technically "locked". Personally I also have a contact sensor on top of my door which detects if door is open or closed.

Never needed to let an unexpected visitor in from afar (or upstairs), without necessarily giving them a guest key?

They not going to phuck with your lock, they're going to bash in the closest window. The schlage BE469 lock has a built in alarm, this one does not. Just get a motion sensor or a security cam with motion detection, or better yet a rotweiler.

Does this require a separate hub for smart functions?

Someone needs to check their math, 89.99 -20% is NOT 67.99.
Maybe OP had some rakuten points in his account to get to that total?
