Various sizes are available, but I went with the 8TB option, as the first HDD in my new Synology NAS is 8TB

If you are okay with a back-ordered purchase (shipping in 3-4 weeks according to the email notification that I received once I placed the order), then this is a pretty solid deal, it expires in 2 days and it offers 15% student discount in addition to Black Friday sale

You will need an .edu account for this one.

Step 1: Head to https://shop.westerndigital.com/p...-discounts
and Join, once you register, confirm your registration (verification email), you can log in and get your one time coupon code

Step 2: Head over to https://shop.westerndigital.com/p...WD7500BFCX and pick whatever size you want

Step 3: Use that student code (I think it lasts only 20 minutes from the moment you generate).

Voila

I used TCB for 7%+ CB on this one with extra $10 special promo

My total was:

$479.98 MSRP

-$225.00 in promotion codes (BF sales + 15% student coupon)

S/H free

Sales tax applied

Total is a little over $270 for two 8TB drives

if you have a edu account ..just follow the instruction. Additionally use Rakuten cash back site to get 7%. For 2 8TB HDD NAS comes around $289 with tax + 7% cash back. Sweet !

Thanks and repped.

You'd have to have brain damage to do this deal instead of just shucking some $180 12TB externals.

The Education discount is not working for me.
I get "The coupon code entered is no longer valid."

You're not guaranteed to get a Red drive with shucking. This was you're absolutely getting a red. If your server is being used for business purposes, I personally feel it's worth the upcharge to have drives that are guaranteed to be server class.

You don't get red drives from shucking anymore you get white labels which are basically HGST heliums/WD reds. For the record WD doesn't make anything 8TB+ that isn't NAS grade or Enterprise. The 8TB here is a good deal but backordered, beyond that you're better off shucking.

When I try to apply my coupon code I get an error stating "The coupon code entered is no longer valid" as well.

Signing in with a .edu account (separate from the Youth Discount registration) DOES seems to apply some sort of discount to everything, but the coupon code is still invalid. The 10 TB WD Elements went from $179.99 BF price to $162.99 when signed in, but not the 15% off of the BF price I was hoping for ($152.99).

Edit: It looks like WD shut down all promo codes. My PlexPass code does not apply either. For the external drives Amazon is cheaper if you have a Prime card ($160 for 10tb plus 15% Prime card cashback).

1) Thanks for the confirmation the WD.com was blocking codes. My never-used Plex code failed the first time I tried yesterday and I didn't know why.

2) Is THIS [amazon.com] the Prime card of which you speak? I keep hearing about this card, don't have one, not sure which of many choices it is to get one.
