Bought 2 V8s (gifts) last year. Both had noticeable scratches. One worked like new, the other had a bad battery that died after 5-6 minutes of regular speed use. I tried to return via Dyson's refurb eBay store but was told to make a warranty claim and I just never got around to it. It worked well enough to use in our kitchen so we kept it.
I replaced the battery with a cheapo unit from Amazon 2 months ago... it lasts forever now, even on high speed! I wish I'd made a warranty claim on time. I'd still buy another refurb for myself, but not as a gift (scratches and potential warranty claim).
