There are two different links to the reel. The other one still shows price as $31.33

The Pursuit is the lowest tier reel Penn still makes. This is bottom of the barrel for their quality control team. I am not saying it's a bad reel, I am saying it's not worth $30. Spend the extra money and either get the Battle 2 or look at the competition.

This has gone in combo form around $35. That is a much more reasonable price.

I'm very happy with my Pursuit. It isn't as nice as my Battles but it has held up well in salt water over the last year and is my go-to that I keep in the truck.

Where/when was this on sale as a combo for the same price? I think I recall seeing the II combo on sale for arouns this price a while back, but not with the same carbon drag system which is a pretty big improvement. Yea it's not their best reel but what other reel(s) is better at this price point though?

Meh, battles are not very good reels either.

The Pursuit 3 is a really good reel for this price and its a pretty significant upgrade over the previous edition (which may have been included in the combo sale you are referring too).

For Penns, I say go with the pursuit, unless you are willing to pay the extra for the SSVI or the Slammer 3, everything in between is lacking in some area or another and not much of an upgrade over the pursuit.

But for around $100, the a daiwa BG is the best reel you can get, way better than the battle and better than most reels even pricier.

BG is king but battle 2 is salt water rated and can be had for half the price of the BG and 20 dollars more than this.

I paid 45 for mine and have 3 that have seen heavy use.

I see it now...was just posting there. FWIW it is a different setup and I'm sure part of it is a supply and demand thing. But yea for a 2500 sized reel I'd prob just go with something else instead. For a budget reel though, compared to something like an avenger av25b, I'd probably just take the pursuit III for the same price

I've seen the combo in store dirt cheap, especially at Walmart, but that's YMMV. Of all the reels Penn makes, it's the most likely to give you issues. I still prefer the battle so that I don't have to worry about rinsing it as well when I take it in the salt water. I mainly do baitcasting though.

I've generally heard the same regarding battles vs bgs. Bgs are built like tanks and very easy to service. I currently have spinfisher v's which I think are fine. But if I ever need more of these bigger reels I'll prob go with BGs or spinfisher vi's
