Yes, the deals may be getting worse and worse with prices (although TVs are dirt cheap now)...my theory is that black friday sucks like the trajectory of phone upgrades. They were super exciting years ago and they are not anymore.

A few years ago, I couldnt wait to upgrade my phone to the latest and greatest. Every year, I was scouring and excited about the new models. Cut to today. My phone is perfectly fine bc its got all the specs it needs - its completely sufficient. I'm no longer excited about trying to get new phone or whatever is coming out bc my phone is already totally sufficient.

This logic applies to Black Friday. If you are a regular SDer you already have a sufficient TV, laptop or whatever - there is no allure of upgrading. Tvs, speakers, headphones etc are not getting dramatically better, interesting or unique. what's the point of upgrading. The only way for Black Friday to get better from this point forward is if new cool products (other than the apple watches and headphones etc...) become extremely mainstream and popular and are something we actually want.....

agree. I dont see many deals that are any different or better than normal deals throughout the year. Same sale, different label. Nothing really worth my time or $ this year.

What is even more concerning to me is two of the best deals I've seen for black Friday that were posted in the hot deals were both deleted because I'm guessing SD didn't have a paid revenue stream for referrals to their websites. One of them was the best price (half off the best price ever) on a kick ass reverse osmosis water system direct from the manufacturers website.

These are just two of the threads I happened to come across today, I wonder how many they remove on a daily basis.

The mods deleted my uniden r3 and r7 radar detectors because the seller is now on a banned listed. I looked up the sellers reviews and they had thousands of reviews at 4.5 stars. Not amazing but most of the complaints were about TVs. Not about radar detectors.

There have been articles in the news the last week on how Retailers are changing strategy in dealing with BF.

They talk about the week before BF is when many sales start and go for a couple of weeks. And that makes sense, since many people are doing shopping on the internet instead of going into car and driving on COLD night to store!

Also, probably the retailers can get tons of more product to sell since it's spread over 3-5 days to sell at reduced price (instead of one day on BF or CM.)

I guess we will find out in a week if the shopping season was good for retailers.

I like the extended BF week sales and we don't have to "fight" over stuff as much as the good old days!

OP is right, smartphones are really good now, and we don't need a new one each year, like in the past.

I wish they would go back to the old days and start the deals at midnight on Thursday night and not one minute before. That made it more exciting.

This year they seemed to arbitrarily pick a start date and just go with it. This dilutes the enjoyment.

I mean hell, Amazon did NOTHING special today. The best deal I saw was a price mistake from Costco and a TV from Rakuten.

Also very weird that SD is deleting threads, that was not what this site was founded on.

It's been meh for a while. Recent example. Sony xm3 purchase $228 a few weeks back, nothing close to that for BF.

Well.... blame it on the Chinese tariffs. Many products have very low margins with the tariffs. Consumers or suppliers need to pay for it. So for sure, this year will not be the same as last year.
It hasn't been the same since 2009

Went to my local target in a major metro area- very few people there. No problem parking, got my TV and no waiting at the checkout line. In and out in 20 min.

Was looking for a gaming laptop deal this year but nothing looks appealing. 3 years ago I got a 17 inch laptop with a GTX 1060 6GB, 16GB Ram and a 500GB SSD for $950 and it came with free games and $100 Windows Store gift card.
