Yeah that's what I've been waiting for too. $1799 is nice but weak compared to deal amazon put out earlier this year in May for $1395 so it's hard to bring myself to buy it at the current price. That's the lowest I've seen it from an authorized dealer. This thing is a year old,

Lol I recall folks in that thread arguing how even that deal was still not slick enough since places like newegg, ebay, buydig and other non-authorized dealers had it for lower or that you were better off getting the 4500 and adding an amp to get 11.2. Some were saying prices would be even better for Black Friday. So far it hasnt.

I guess we all expected the prices to be 50% off for BF. At this point I would totally jump on it for $1400 from amazon or another authorized reseller. 3 more days of sales so we shall see.

Cool, thanks. Looks like Independence day deals probably as they are dated March/April/May time frame. I'll skip if the drop is that much.

For anybody wondering, I managed to get on the Amazon deal in May and paid $1485 after tax. It shipped within 2 weeks.

My first A/V receiver, running 7.1.4 with ease, plus my phono on the side. Up-mixes music into surround so beautifully it feels like a concert. Definitely a solid investment compared to various soundbars, amplifiers, and built-in sound systems over the years....

Only thing I'm waiting on is the HDMI 2.1 upgrade which Denon says is coming but haven't heard about lately.

Crimson,

What speakers are you using?
Do you have external amp or is the avr good enough?

aaaand it's back. Amazon has resumed it's previous weak sauce BF price of $1799 for this model. So much for being lower than the May pricing. I'm probably just going to wait another year to drop $1000+ to upgrade my receiver. maybe between now and next May there''ll be a hotter slickdeal on this.

Denon/Marantz top end models( those made in Japan) often have a model life span of 2-3 years...unlike the lower end models

They also typically offer you an upgrade path , if technology changes, unlike the non made in Japan models

They also hold resale better..if that matters to you
I bought an Denon X7200 two years ago ,and based on what I see them selling for I might lose $100 based on what I paid from an authorized dealer at the time

What upgrade path do they offer? Do they allow trade-ins for the latest model? What percentages off the price are the trade-ins. I would love to get the 6500 and do 7.2.4 but have the option to upgrade at a reasonable cost in 3-5 years when newer tech renders it obsolete.

They definitely appear to be holding their prices going on 2 years now. My old Denon 3313 still sounds great but so much tech has passed it by that it's now obsolete for Atmos and newer DTS and doubt resale would be an option for that one at this point. Not to mention I'm now maxed out on HDMI inputs. Not sure if it does 4k pass thru or applying its own video processing interfering with my Panny 4k player.

I don't want to buy at $2199 or even $1799 if I'm going to have to upgrade in another 3-5 years like I should have done with the 3313 and pay another $1.5-2k. But if I could trade it in and only pay 50% or less of MSRP then I'd be very interested indeed.

They offered an HDCP 2.2 upgrade at no charge...
They are also offering an HDMI upgrade for a fee

Neither of which was ( is) being offered on the not made in Japan models

BTW...hopefully you didnt pay anywhere close to $1.5 to 2K for a 3313?
If I recall correctly..I recall seeing those for $500 ish years ago
I paid about $950 for a 4520 back then and sold it a year later for $750

Today ..you can buy essentially the 3313 replacement..the X3500...for $549

turnne, thanks for the advice and info.

No, I ddin't pay that much for the 3313 and the x3500 is a vast upgrade but I recently upgraded my theater room (14'x20') speaker setup to a 7.2.2 with option for 7.2.4.

The 3500 only has outputs for 7.2 or 5.2.2 which is why I was really looking at getting the 6500. However, since the important internals seem to be similar between the 3500, 4500, and 6500, would I be better off just getting the 3500 and adding external power amp(s) to drive the 2-4 Atmos speakers? Any recommendations on some good amps at price points that would make that on par with the $6500 for a max of $1300 budget?

Thanks,
Dan

Curious where you found details that the HDMI upgrade would be free of charge? TY!

I think the internals of the X6500 are above the ones found in the X3500 and X4500
This coming from a Denon service center...Clearly whether you hear the difference may vary

Are you going to do 11 channels?
if so ..you are not going to find an 11 channel plus an AVR/preamp for less than this deal

I said it was for a fee...IIRC correctly its going to be $199-299. This is per what a dealer said in the X6500 forum on AVS forums
