Muscular sound from a 10" (250mm) subwoofer with built-in 300W RMS amplifier.

Bass is the foundation of great sound. You don't just hear it in your ears; you also feel it from the top of your head to the bottom of your feet. JBL® subwoofers are built to maximize such a feeling as well as enhance your entire experience of sound. The same JBL sound engineers who designed the playback systems for many of the world's top concert venues, recording studios and THX®-equipped movie theatres have optimized their technologies and materials in the Studio 550P subwoofer to play with just about any home system. This subwoofer incorporates your entire body into an enveloping bass experience. The 550P outputs astonishingly realistic and immersive low-frequency sound via a forward-facing, 10-inch (250-millimetre) transducer mounted inside a rigid yet light PolyPlas™ cast-aluminium cone frame. This is the kind of powerful, low-distortion bass that you can feel from skin to ear to chest cavity, and one that practically transports you to the very environment that you are hearing. The Studio 550P truly places you at the centre of the experience, right in your living room.

How is this versus a Dayton 12"? Looking for something in the sub $200 range. Thanks.

Ported vs sealed for this price range:

Worse for movies, better for music. Won't get as loud, but will be flatter with more extension. Should be smaller as well

Neither will get to ultra low LFE though.

I had one of those. They are quite heavy and the cabinet is not cheap or thin. It looks ugly without the mesh covering. It doesn't look like a cheap sub. Be careful with the feet though. They are plastic (and a rubber bottom) and the sub should be carried. It's was very good with music and not a laggard compared to ported subs (music wise) I returned it because my priority is tv/movies/game.

Edit: Due to its weight, it was a pain getting it to a UPS store. I wish I have room for a music only setup. The JBL 500 level subs are within my budget when on sale plus they meet my basic needs music wise.

Just like how the pb2000 sounds when watching movies on it. The 550 is good with music though when i was using it

If you follow reddit at all, the guy behind r/budgetaudiophile has 2 of these and endorses them over the Dayton. I just bought this one yesterday over the Dayton but I really dislike boomy bass so I did not want ported.
