Exactly what I was looking for too, something better than the 2019 fire tab 7. Hopefully someone can shed some light on if it's better. I'm going to read reviews in the meantime.

Edit: no reviews, just a 4.3 out of 5 rating with only 4 reviews submitted (2x 5*, 1x 4*, 1x 3*). Maybe some specs might help a little:

- 7" LCD touchscreen display
- 1024 x 600 resolution
- 4-hour battery life
- Android 9.0 Pie (Go Edition)
- 1.3 GHz quad core processor

Just picked one up was about to do the samsung 10 but found this. Needed something small. Its not the fastest tab in the world but for the price and its responsiveness with only a gig and its processor this tablet is actually surprisingly quick for its specs if your expectations aren't set on ipad or samsung level.

Would be decent as a smart alarm clock/mounted weather station next to the door on your way out of the house, control smart home devices, etc.

Whoever thinks this is better than a fire tablet does now know about jailbreaking or anything about the fire os.

I'm not going to be able to go pick one up in store or else I'd grab a backup one for my toddler. IMO this is THE tablet for toddlers. I had a Fire kid's edition and returned it. The best thing about it is if you create a Google account for your kid you can use Family Link to manage the device remotely.
https://play.google.com/store/app...familylink

Fire OS has a really cumbersome way of doing kids accounts which I don't like. You're basically logged into a separate profile on that device and have to switch between accounts to do any kind of "parent" tasks. The Amazon FreeTime service was garbage also imo. Love Amazon, don't love their Fire tablets.

With this ONN tablet you're basically getting vanilla Android 9 EXCEPT that there is a fourth button along with the back/home/switcher buttons that brings up a folder of shortcuts to Walmart apps. As far as bloatware it's pretty minimal. I don't know how to remove it (probably requires root) but it doesn't bother my son enough to mess with it.

If you have low expectations you'll be happy. My son watches YouTube Kids, PBS Kids, and movies on Plex that I've synced at 720p resolution.

Worst spec on this is the 16gb of storage. Android 9 probably takes up a quarter of that. Not bad as long as you're not planning to save much locally. Or you can add an additional sd card.

This comment is confusing...

FireOS is terrible if you're trying to get a close to native Android experience.

Sure, this tablet won't receive updates, but Amazon isn't exactly quick with their fork either.... unless it's to prevent you from doing anything they disagree with (can't change the launcher without jumping through a ton of hoops, for instance).

Side note: Someone finally figured out how to root the Firestick 4k, but it requires opening the case and shorting some pins... not exactly user friendly.
