Sigh... Finally bit, after resisting previous similar sales. This is 5 bucks more than the historic low, which I find acceptable still

FYI, with our first ever 3D printer (Creality Ender 3 pro) which costs about the same as this lego set, my 8 yo son is now designing all the parts of his car he is modeling on a free website TinkerCad and then printing them up on Ender 3 pro. IMHO, i think investing in a 3d printer would be much better choice. Again, IMO.
So he makes so he makes 1862 lego pieces and put them all together? That's impressive.

How's the quality of those pieces he makes and how much does it cost to make all those pieces?

Frustration free packaging (aka - plain cardboard box) kills it for me.

No, you missing the point. I am sure this lego set is worth its price and I am a long time LEGO fan myself. What I am saying, after having bought many sets of legos for my kids, is that buying something they can model, design, and build themselves from scratch (or nothing) is much more worth the experience, IMO. My son has built a simple car (the chassis and wheels modeled and printed separately) on Tinkercad. He says he enjoys it more than anything. I think it gives them the feeling of "you can do anything!".

Amazon always states that frustration free package for lego but all my lego sets came double boxed by manufacturer.

I was just asking because my son and I have been curious about those 3D printer every time we see one as we have no clue what we will do with it.

So at home depot, they used to do demo and "print" a toy car or a figure (which is cool). But then we ask ourselves, "what are we going to do with the printer? Print out a bunch of objects to display?"

I simply was just asking since you have first hand experience on a 3D printer. My response was "whoa, this person printed out a set of technic with a 3D printer" when I read your comment. 😂😂
