Gift subscriptions to Ancestry.com are 50% off until Cyber Monday. You can choose either 6 or 12 months for the US or World subs. And you can gift yourself the subscription. You must decide which date you want the subscription to start. The email will go to the listed email address the day it's become active. I've done this in the past, and again today.

US Discovery
6 months $49
12 months $94

World Explorer
6 months $74
12 months $149

You don't have to do anything with DNA to use this if you don't want to. This is about building family trees and finding heritage with records. This can be used independently from Ancestry DNA.

Blame your mom, not ancestry

This gift subscription is for people who've already done the DNA testing. It allows you to further research records and documents and family trees and the like, which can be absolutely fascinating. In my case, I never knew who my father was and my mothers history was murky at best. To each their own!

Be afraid, be very very afraid. How long do you think it will be until Ancestry and 23andme get hacked and your data is out there? And while there are laws against jacking up your health insurance based on genetic data there are no such laws for life insurance. And remember, that DNA is not only yours it is that of your siblings, parents, children, and grandchildren. Did I say you need to be very, or very afraid?

Honestly, I can't imagine it would be better than this. I've never fared well on Cyber Monday. 50% off seems really good for Ancestry- they're pretty stingy with the offers unless it's for the test kit, which I've done.

This is their best deal each year. They've done the same deal the last two years, at least.

I've never used the site before, but have been curious about it for years... with a single world membership, would my wife and I be able to research into both of our family's lines, or would it just be one "side?"

You can research as many people as you want. You can build your full family tree, add pictures, etc. You can still access the tree data after subscription runs out but you will no longer be able to see the formal records without subscription. Nice deal.

I understand your point but I guess their guarantee of the security of the data and the actual sample is the best you can get in this digital age: "Your privacy is important to us. We use industry standard security practices to store your DNA sample, your DNA test results, and other personal data you provide to us. In addition, we store your DNA test results and DNA sample without your name or other common identifying information. You own your DNA data. At any time, you can choose to download raw DNA data, have us delete your DNA test results as described in the AncestryDNA Privacy Statement, or have us destroy your physical DNA saliva sample. We do not share with third parties your name or other common identifying information linked to your genetic data, except as legally required or with your explicit consent.

For more information on privacy at AncestryDNA, see the AncestryDNA Privacy Statement and visit our Privacy Center."

I agree with you, but to also counter the person you replied to, this is not for use only with DNA results. This subscription is solely to use their online software and records data to research your family.
